Reflection Friday! This week I'm reflecting on one of the 'perks' of being a Business Analyst, which is the ability to see everything through a process lens. For example, the last time I visited the hospital, I couldn't help but notice a process inefficiency: patients were given the same appointment time. Why? A simple solution would be to space out appointment time by 30mins or some minutes depending on the availability of the doctor. The field seemed complex and intimidating, and I didn’t fully understand what it entailed. However, I wanted to push my boundaries and challenge myself. I took the time to explore the industry, made connections, and sought to understand it better. After being immersed in the heart of the industry for almost two months as a Strategic Business Analyst, I have come to realize the vast scope and impact that different roles can have within the optics field. I also encountered resistance from peers who shared my initial apprehensions. This experience inspired me to simplify the field and make it more accessible to others. Given that optics is such a significant part of the Greater Rochester economic ecosystem, I believe that by having conversations with people and sharing insights, I can help reduce the intimidation factor associated with this industry. By demystifying the complexities of optics, I hope to encourage more individuals to explore the exciting opportunities it offers."
