I recently had an experience that made me rethink a common issue in Nepal. I’ve often seen videos online where people criticize Marwaris in Nepal, claiming they’re taking over businesses or land. I used to think these comments were just noise, but today I faced a situation that showed me otherwise.
During a business meeting, a designer raised some complaints and subtly suggested that Marwaris get special treatment. His tone made me realize that these online stories are affecting how people see Marwaris in real life. I quickly told him that such comments were out of line and that his assumptions had no place in our discussion and i was more Nepali than one could ever think of being.
This made me wonder: Why are these divisions being promoted? Who benefits from creating such differences? It’s disappointing to see caste-based prejudice still affecting our society. We need to remember that Marwaris, like many others, are important contributors to Nepal’s economy, providing jobs and supporting many Nepalis.
Just like Nepalis who move abroad for better opportunities, people from different backgrounds contribute to Nepal’s growth.
We are all one community, and allowing these divisive attitudes to fester only leads to greater harm. If we continue to support such prejudice, we will only bring about our own downfall, creating a more fractured society where everyone loses.
Let’s unite and focus on building a stronger, inclusive Nepal where everyone’s contributions are recognized and valued. The real danger lies in letting these divisions weaken us from within.
