Nearly one-fifth of nurses are projected to leave the healthcare workforce by 2027. The American Organization for Nursing Leadership published a report revealing one of the biggest reasons nurses are exiting the industry: their managers are too busy to train and support them. There's no doubt about it. Healthcare leaders play a critical role in supporting nurse education. A collaborative approach that empowers nurses and fosters a culture of lifelong learning is essential for ensuring a highly skilled and qualified nursing workforce that can deliver exceptional patient care. #Nursing #Retention #Leadership #Healthcare #Patients #Education #Collaboration

Why All Nurses Shouldn't Be Confined to Bedside Care (Tales of a Public Health Nurse) - - This story was shared with me by one of my colleagues who is currently practicing as a Public Health Nurse but started out as a Registered Bedside Nurse. “A few years ago, I found myself feeling burnt out and unfulfilled in my role as a bedside nurse. Despite my passion for patient care, the long hours, high patient ratios, and physical demands took a toll on my well-being. I felt stuck, wondering if there was more I could do to make a difference in healthcare. That's when I decided to explore other avenues within nursing. I transitioned into a role in public health, where I had the opportunity to work on community outreach programs and advocate for preventive care initiatives. It was a refreshing change that reignited my passion for nursing. Through my new role, I realized that nursing encompasses a diverse range of specialties and opportunities beyond the hospital walls. From research and education to administration and policy-making, there are countless ways for nurses to contribute to the healthcare system and make a meaningful impact on patient outcomes.” So, why should all nurses not be confined to bedside care? In my opinion, because we have unique skills, knowledge, and perspectives that can be applied in various settings to address healthcare challenges from different angles. By embracing diverse roles, we can drive innovation, improve patient care, and advance the nursing profession as a whole. And so I ask, dear Nurse what is your passion or motivation? ———————————————- Found this post helpful? Please Repost to your network. Senior Healthcare Operations Leader | Quality & Population Health | Strategic Planning | Organizational Leadership | Enhancing Patient & Provider Experience | Driving Clinical Excellence and Financial Growth
Nurse to CEO - not surprising at all. We are critical thinkers, process-driven, and adaptable. "Always be open to change" could easily be my middle name. I transitioned from bedside ICU and trauma rescue flight nurse to building a cardiology practice and assuming a director role when that practice was acquired, all without a master's or doctorate degree. The experience and knowledge I've gained are invaluable - a true education. My nursing background shapes every decision I make operationally, making me better equipped for the challenges ahead. #nursing, #CEO, #healthcare

Healthcare Operations Strategist | Managed Care Specialist | Process Management | Data Analysis & Reporting
The article from Healthcare IT News discusses the ongoing challenges around nurse staffing ratios and efforts to strike a balance between adequate staffing levels and access to care. It highlights that it is National Nurses Week 2024, celebrating the over 5 million registered nurses in the U.S., but staffing shortages remain a critical issue overshadowing the celebration. Some federal and state legislators are seeking to mandate patient-caregiver ratios to improve care quality and reduce nurse burnout. However, organizations like the American Nurses Association (ANA) and American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) support evidence-based, flexible staffing ratios rather than mandated, standardized ratios. They recommend staffing be determined with input from nurses based on factors like patient acuity, admissions, nurse experience, unit design, and benchmarked ratios. The article notes the typical rule of thumb is a 1:4-5 ratio on medical-surgical units, 1:3-4 on intermediate units, and 1:2 in ICUs. It discusses the need for proactive planning, empowering nurses in decision-making, using incentives for challenging shifts, and balancing staffing needs with budgets. Effective practices include conducting staffing analyses, using resource pools, communicating action plans, surveying nurse satisfaction, benchmarking ratios, and evaluating patient feedback. https://lnkd.in/eW-q6SrD #healthcare #nursing

Bridging the gap between real-world healthcare and tech innovations | COO/Cofounder @EmployWell | DNP, MNSc, APRN, FNP-BC, BCMAS |
I love that nurses have an entire week to be recognized. But it's also a really excellent opportunity to shine a light on some alarming trends (like the stats in the link below) that need to be on the radar of all healthcare stakeholders and consumers. Nearly one-third of nurse leaders plan to leave for a different role in the next year. And 9% of them want to leave nursing altogether. Even with advances in technology, 72% of nurse leaders report feeling burned out. Even more startling - the fact that burnout has reached the leadership level...it's not just a bedside or hospital problem. It's systemic... Why are these trends emerging? It's time for us to ask the tough questions and face the uncomfortable truths head-on. This #NursesWeek, let's advocate for strategies that enhance job satisfaction and support for our nurse leaders, who are pivotal in maintaining the quality of our healthcare services. How can we better support the individuals who lead our care teams? 🏥💪 #nurses #HealthcareLeadership #NurseBurnout #SupportNurses #nurseinnovation
