Navigating the EU Conditionality in the New Growth Plan 🇪🇺🇦🇱🇧🇦🇽🇰🇲🇪🇲🇰🇷🇸 The New Growth Plan for the #WB6 has introduced critical conditionality measures, requiring WB6 countries to implement key #reforms to access #funds. However, certain factors in the region’s geopolitical landscape challenge the #effectiveness of #EUconditionality. Key insights from our latest discussion paper: - Conditionality has driven political and economic reforms but faces credibility issues in WB6. - Tangible rewards and incentives for meeting conditions are crucial to revitalizing the enlargement process. - The conditionalities under the GP should be agreed upon amongst the EC and Member States to ensure the accession process will not be blocked or delayed once the conditions are met. In our statement delivered at the Open Debate of the Security Council on the impact of climate change and food insecurity on the maintenance of international peace and security,convened by the presidency of Guyana for the month of February ( UN Headquarters, February 14, 2024), Suriname recognizes that climate change, food insecurity and maintenance of peace and security, are interlinked. To be successful in maintaining peace and security and ensuring sustainable development for our current and future generations, we must set aside ideological differences, demonstrate political will, uphold firm commitment to international principles, international law, and the UN Charter and urgently reform the international financial architecture to address the economic, financial and environmental challenges faced by developing countries. Suriname underscores the critical importance of effective multilateralism in addressing our global challenges. We must pursue these objectives in unity and strong solidarity!

OECD Model vs UN model OECD model - (Organization for economic co-operation and development ) is essentially model treaty between two developed nations.this model advocates the residence principle UN model - UN model is compromise between the source principle and residence principle.it give more weight to source principle as against the residence principle of OECD model.UN model is designed to encourage flow of investment from the developed countries to developing countries.

Threats to multilateral legal order continue to create a situation of incredulity and agnosticism among member states of UN. What choice does the States have to ensure continuous equitable treatment, peace and security in this world. Armed conflicts, climate change and sustainability, unequal trading arrangements are examples of current imbalance of treatment in the global system that necessitate for reform in the multilateral system.
