Greatly appreciate the opportunity to discuss the current state of #retailer and #supplier relationships and the impact relentless cost increases have had on the #consumer. We firmly believe now is the time to set a new course in these relationships through more strategic negotiations, partnership-building, joint problem-solving, #innovation discussions and #mediation.
Thanks to the fine folks at Conlego for pulling back the curtain on retail/supplier negotiations and offering a push for collaboration to address rising #foodprices. #CPG #retail https://lnkd.in/gC2wEera

More on the affordability crisis for Canadians, in particular, the cost of groceries. We've been talking about this code of conduct for years. Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne says it’s “untenable” for “smaller players” like Walmart and Costco to delay signing on to the Grocery Code of Conduct. After months of negotiation, Loblaw, who comprises 30% of the Canadian market, announced recently they are ready to sign the code. While the article surmises that the government has options to legislate, the Minister seems confident Canadian grocers will sign. What are your thoughts? 🥕 #groceries #codeofconduct #inflation #affordabilitycrisis #financialcrisis #Canada #walmart #loblaw #costco

ComCom testing if supply code ‘rule book’ is helping fix power imbalance in groceries New Zealand’s Grocery Commissioner is launching a review of the new Grocery Supply Code to see if it’s helping fix the ongoing power imbalance between suppliers and the major supermarkets In calling for views, Pierre van Heerden says that this review is crucial to make sure the Code that came into effect in September last year is operating as intended, and to identify the best way forward for continued and increased effectiveness. New Zealand’s mandatory Grocery Supply Code was introduced under the Grocery Industry Competition Act (GICA). The Code was created to increase transparency and certainty for suppliers through a set of rules supermarkets need to follow when dealing with suppliers. Bringing increased certainty to agreements between supermarkets and suppliers would give suppliers more confidence to innovate and invest in more choice for consumers.... https://bit.ly/3YDYZ5T #NewZealand #Business #Retail #Grocery Via comcom.govt.nz

🛒 Asda has begun matching prices with Aldi and #Lidl as the supermarket’s billionaire owners battle to win back market share and address concerns about the grocer’s #debt levels. The supermarket will match the German discounters on the #price of 287 “core everyday grocery products”. Staples such as milk, bread, cheese, tea, coffee, pasta and rice will be included in the promotion. Individual products will be matched with whichever discounter is offering a cheaper price. Items included in the scheme will see their prices fall by an average of 17pc, #Asda said. Tesco and Sainsbury’s both price match #Aldi but Asda is the first British #supermarket to price match both discounters. Read more here ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/eSVxQRTi

Australia Small Business Champion 2024 | Melbourne’s Small Business of the Year 2023 | Founder of RIPE & Cured, TheCheeseSocial | Champion of Australian Cheese & Produce
I reference the ABC report on the big 2 supermarkets monopolizing the grocery industry in Australia. They both have a 65% share of the market with Aldi coming in a distant third at 10%. https://lnkd.in/g9cKtwMV Queen Victoria Market is a hub for many small businesses since its inception in 1878. I remember when I first started in 2017, there were maybe 1 or 2 supermarkets around us. Now, there are 4 Woolsworth within 1km around the market. Why? Not only are we trying to manage price inflation to stay competitive, but also going against giants who have huge influence on pricing and allegedly screwing their suppliers. Many small businesses at the market are feeling this pressure. And it’s about time the duopoly get pulled down a notch or two and a proper code of conduct is introduced (i.e. penalties!).
