Building Resilient Cities: Mitigating Urban Heat Islands Urban heat islands pose significant challenges to our cities, exacerbating temperatures and impacting urban living conditions. At Prakriti Club, we're dedicated to innovating solutions that enhance urban resilience and sustainability. Progress Today: Cities worldwide are adopting advanced materials, green infrastructure, and smart technologies to combat the urban heat island effect. By integrating these innovations, we're not only cooling urban areas but also reducing energy consumption for cooling, improving air quality, and fostering healthier urban ecosystems. Future Outlook: Looking ahead, our goal is to further optimize urban planning and design with a focus on green spaces, reflective surfaces, and efficient building materials. Through collaborative efforts and community engagement, we aim to create cities that are more resilient to heatwaves and climate change impacts. Join us in our mission to transform urban environments into sustainable and livable spaces. Together, we can build a future where cities thrive in harmony with nature. #UrbanHeatIsland #Sustainability #SmartCities #PrakritiClub #IITGuwahati #FutureCities #avinya #technicheiitg #techniche2024 #iit #iitguwahati #college #avinya2024

Trees are beautiful, sustainable and healthy. Planting trees is a cool way to make a city climate-adaptive and Singapore, a tropical city-state, densely populated on the cyclone prone and busy Singapore Strait has developed a ‘greening the city policy’ that can serve as example for other cities, also in other parts of the world. The Urban Redevelopment Authority and National Parks Board of Singapore explained at the #EsriUC2024 how they used the geographic approach and its custom 3D planner, leveraging the possibilities of the latest #ArcGIS in their plan City in Nature, managing more than 6 million trees. Planting trees, not just in cities, but also in the countryside should get the highest priority in battling #climatechange, restoring #nature and enhacing #biodiversity. (Btw: a green environment makes people happier as well!) #planttrees #reforestation #greencities #climatechange #geospatial #esri #esriuc

On the 8th of June, 2024, our PULL team, in collaboration with the Goa Energy Development Authority (GEDA), hosted a visioning workshop to imagine the city of Panaji in 2050 as a net zero city. Over the course of the workshop, through a series of interactive sessions and activities, participants engaged in creative exercises and discussions to explore different aspects of the city’s future, and identify common values and priorities, to establish some normative aspirations for Panaji- we had wonderful discussions not just about what the future could look like but what the future should look like. Some core visions emerged around urban nature; both to achieve net zero and to improve the city, there was consensus that urban forests and man-made natural spaces, that purify the air, beautify spaces, and safeguard biodiversity, should form a large part of the city. Coastal forests, for example, will play a key role in making Panaji climate-resilient and net zero - as mangroves have the potential to sequester a lot of carbon and also prevent soil erosion and many natural disasters. Many residents envisioned Panaji becoming renowned for its lush greenery. Furthermore, recognising Panaji’s natural ecosystems with its many natural springs, lakes and creeks, and preserving the indigenous practices that protect them was also discussed. Another key discussion point was the need to achieve net zero without compromising Panaji’s rich heritage. Preserving the past while designing new buildings for low energy usage is vital. For example, minimising glass facades and ensuring designs promote natural cooling, and having preserved historical neighbourhoods. Panaji’s cultural vibrancy, driven by its community, was identified as a key strength to be protected and encouraged. Cultural festivals, educational initiatives for children, informative programs for tourists and the floating population, and community-driven solutions to climate issues were all seen as crucial for fostering a resilient and cohesive city. We are excited to use these insights and ideas to inform policy as the city works towards its goal of achieving net zero in 2050. A special thanks to Srinivas Mangipudi (Socratus Foundation for Collective Wisdom), who captured some of the discussions in these wonderful illustrations! We often search in distant lands for answers to solve climate or sustainability challenges within our own communities. But sometimes, the most sensible solution may already exist close to home. In emerging markets, many assume that industrialized construction methods could be a green way of building a hotel. Constructing a building that requires extracting and importing resources from distant places could lead to a set of issues: increased carbon emissions, and lodging and mining potentially resulting in biodiversity degradation. In the mountainous union territory of Ladakh in India, Ladakh Eco Resort is reviving an ancient construction method -- rammed earth architecture -- to counteract the carbon-intensive industrialized building approach. In the upcoming AST Briefing, our contributor Misha Paul spoke with owner Norboo Wangchuk and architect Stanzin Chozang to learn how these two visionary leaders adapted the rammed earth construction method to meet 21st-century resort needs. ✏ Sign up to get the first access to the story this coming Saturday. 📲 https://lnkd.in/gxRhEE2Z Photo by: Ladakh Eco Resort ___________________________________________ #sustainability #climateaction #impact #purpose #earth #sainha #planet #people #prosperity #growth #culture #strategy #hotel #luxury #opportunities #hospitality #sustainabletravel #travel #travelindustry #responsiblebusiness #responsibletourism #AsiaSustainableTravel #AsiaSustainableTravel #AST #DigitalMarketing #Innovation #Technology #Creativity #Future #Futurism #Entrepreneurship

🌟 Reflecting on My First Month as a Consultant in the Urban Development Department of Tripura 🌆 It’s been a dynamic and fulfilling first month in my role as a consultant in the Urban Development Department of Tripura. One of the most impactful experiences has been managing the 18-day long Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign, coordinating with 20 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) across the state. Here are a few key takeaways from this experience: Effective Coordination and Collaboration: Leading a campaign of this scale required seamless collaboration with multiple stakeholders. Working closely with ULBs, local communities, and various departments was essential to ensure smooth operations and successful execution. Empowering Local Bodies: The campaign reinforced the importance of empowering ULBs to take ownership of cleanliness and sanitation efforts. By providing guidance and support, we were able to motivate them to take proactive steps and engage their communities. Adapting on the Go: With 20 ULBs involved, each with its unique challenges, adaptability was crucial. It taught me the importance of being flexible and finding creative solutions to address on-ground issues swiftly. Community Engagement: Mobilizing people and encouraging community participation was one of the campaign's highlights. Seeing the enthusiasm of citizens and their commitment to cleanliness and sustainability was inspiring and motivating. This first month has been a learning journey, and I’m excited to continue contributing to the urban development initiatives in Tripura. Here's to many more months of impactful work and growth! 💪 #UrbanDevelopment #SwachhataHiSeva #Tripura #Consulting #CommunityEngagement #Sustainability #ProfessionalGrowth

Did you know that urban vegetation can significantly lower city temperatures? Trees and green spaces help cool down urban areas by providing shade and cooling the air through a process known as transpirational cooling, which can mitigate the heat island effect. This natural cooling mechanism is good for the environment and improves our quality of life by making cities more livable and sustainable. Are you curious about how urban greenery can keep cities cooler? India’s urbanisation is turning about to be concrete jungles, in order to break the shackles of these concrete jungles we need greenfield smart cities like Dholera which can set a benchmark for Indian smart cities. Dholera SIR is being planned with total area of 920 square Km with developable area of 422 sqaure Km because of it’s strategic planning Dholera is going to witness huge chunk of open space once completed. #Dholera #SmartCity
