With AI and automation being the buzzwords, sports industry at large has also adopted to the new ways. Out of the many areas being impacted by technology, sports video creation is something that's growing rapidly. Some of the standout solutions from India I see in this space are Magnifi, SportVot, Quidich Innovation Labs. Double Click on -SportVot, recently announced they have launched a new automated sports production solution. With less than 1% of Sports matches in the world having coverage, solutions like SportVot can help these underserved sports build better visibility as well as monetise their matches.Digging deep into what SportVot's automated solution and what it offers: 1.Multi angle video capture (This sets them apart from most of the automated solutions out there) 2. Graphics overlays, and scoring controls 3. Sponsor and ad integration 4. Remote commentary 5. Automated highlights 6. Instant Replay from multiple angles (This could be a game changer) While many AI-driven productions tend to overlook the emotional aspect of sports, SportVot's automated production capitalises on India's rich human capital, doubling its impact with automation technology. This creates a more engaging sports production solution that captures not just the technical aspects but also the passion and beauty of sports that fans crave and have gotten used to watching at the top level. Representing the Action: The Evolution of Sports Broadcasting When KDKA Radio made history in 1921 by broadcasting the first sporting event - a boxing match between Johnny Ray and Johnny Dundee - they faced a fascinating challenge: how to help listeners "see" the fight through sound alone. The announcer that day pioneered what would become a crucial skill in sports broadcasting - the art of representing action. The arrival of television in the 1930s transformed sports forever. From the grainy footage of the 1936 Berlin Olympics to the first color broadcast of the 1955 Davis Cup tennis matches, each technological leap brought fans closer to the action. The 1960s gave us instant replay. The 1990s introduced the yellow first-down line in NFL broadcasts. The 2000s brought HD and then 4K. This year's Australian Open's avatar-based visualization is a creative solution to reach new audiences and while honoring rights commitments. While it may attract the next generation of viewers, it substitutes the authentic athletic performance with simplified representations - trading authenticity for accessibility. It's amazing to see this kind of creativity in sports media, and it’s essential for attracting new audiences. At Arcturus, our volumetric video technology captures live action in full 3D, allowing producers and creators to tell sports stories in compelling new ways. It’s the next generation of representation, going beyond traditional 2D broadcast to deliver immersive coverage and experiences fans have never seen or even imagined. #SportsInnovation #Broadcasting #FutureOfSports #SportsTech #VolumetricVideo

The Future of Sports Broadcasting in Africa: Lessons from TNT Sports' Experiment Sports and gaming are converging like never before, creating immersive experiences that were unimaginable just a few years ago. TNT Sports' recent experiment with NBA 2K25 DataCast exemplifies how traditional sports broadcasting can be revolutionized by integrating elements of esports and gaming. This isn't just a technological evolution—it’s a cultural shift. By blending NBA 2K25’s immersive features, like shot meters and gaming camera angles, with live sports, TNT is pioneering a format that resonates with younger, digitally-native audiences. Why Nigerian and African Media Should Take Note: Youth Engagement: Africa's population is predominantly young. Combining sports and gaming could be the key to engaging this demographic, who already demand dynamic, interactive content. Economic Opportunities: Gaming and esports are billion-dollar industries globally. Leveraging this convergence could unlock new revenue streams for African media companies through sponsorships, advertising, and partnerships. Content Evolution: Platforms like TNT Sports show us that fans no longer just watch—they engage. Features like gaming-style overlays, real-time analytics, and interactive elements redefine fan experiences. TNT’s Playbook: The NFL x Fortnite crossover captured younger audiences with gamified fandom. NHL and MLB DataCast introduced real-time data overlays inspired by video games. NBA 2K25’s broadcast integration blurred the lines between reality and gaming. What Can Nigerian and African Media Do? Collaborate with esports platforms to develop localized gaming-inspired broadcasts. Embrace emerging technologies like AR/VR and real-time data to enhance live sports. Foster partnerships with gaming companies to bridge the gap between traditional sports and esports. The convergence of sports and gaming isn’t just a trend—it’s the future. As Africa positions itself as a global player in innovation and entertainment, now is the time to embrace this shift. The question isn’t whether we should adapt; it’s how quickly we can lead the charge. What steps do you think African media can take to innovate in sports broadcasting? #GamingInSports #InnovationInAfrica #FanEngagement #EsportsInAfrica #FutureOfSports
