🌳 My new R package {forestdata} is now available in CRAN!🌳
This package can be used to easily download forest land cover data from sources such as the Global Land Cover from the Copernicus Global Land Service, global canopy height models from 2020, and much more. The table below shows the currently available functions.
If you have any suggestion of any dataset that I might add, feel free to raise an issue.

#30DayMapChallenge - 2 Colours. Inspired by radar monitors from the movies. North East Greenland National Park. Datasource: Precisely World Boundaries Premium. Projection: Lambert Azimuthal Equal-Area (North Pole). Created in Precisely MapInfo Pro.
World Boundaries Premium provides comprehensive coverage of global administrative geographies combined with neighborhood, suburb, land use, and postal geographies. Administrative boundaries from multiple sources for over 200 countries and territories are aggregated in a single dataset, with a single file and table structure. The data also supports a host of forward and reverse geocoding functions, geo-tagging, and geofencing.

#Heat_Risk_Index (HRI) of Athens, Greece, is one of the most recent and long-term heat islands.
With the help of Arc GIS #Living_Atlas , we use a Multispectral Landsat imagery layer for calculating max-min temperature data 0f 2021, one of 3 key data sets, which will be used for HRI.
ArcGIS Living Atlas, add the European Space Agency (ESA) World_Cover 2021 Land Cover layer data for counting trees and determining the percentage lacking.
Finally, the avg. population data from Multispectral imagery (L-5) and combining all 3 data for better visualization of HRI. Each polygon contains important data sets, further stakeholders can get ideas for decision-making, and adaptation plans for a better world.
Find out the details results here- in 1st comment.

"A global distributed altitude (terrain height) data from Nevada Geodetic Laboratory 🏡 "
I discovered a dataset that records 22000+ points of altitude around the world that can be potentially useful for validating Global Digital Elevation Map (GDEM) from this hashtag
#ScientificData Paper (https://lnkd.in/eXewQZTQ). A big effort has been made to access the website (https://lnkd.in/eJK4RyRU) and collect all the GPS stations' height.
Therefore, to avoid repetitive effort, I made a single geopackage file that contains all the records, document the process and publish it as an open data in hashtag
#Zenodo (https://lnkd.in/eUQQS_7B).
Art
It may just be a quick screenshot of the randomized colors for various rasters mid-pre-processing for running a model, but it resonated with me. If you want to know, the locations in focus are Volusia and Brevard Counties (Florida) while working with NRCS's gSSURGO dataset and the NLCD Landcover and Impervious dataset. Projection is NAD 1983 Contiguous USA Albers. This project is associated with the Institute for Water and Environmental Resilience at Stetson University.

12 DAYS OF TERRA MEASUREMENT
Day 4: Survey Fun Facts
🎶 "On the fourth day of Christmas, Terra Measurement gave to me… four fun facts on surveying! 🎶
Geospatial surveying isn’t just precise—it’s fascinating! Here are four fun facts you might not know:
✨ Fact 1: The oldest known survey tools date back to ancient Egypt, where ropes and plumb bobs were used to map the pyramids.
✨ Fact 2: Modern surveying tools like GNSS rovers can pinpoint locations with sub-centimeter accuracy—imagine measuring the width of a small twig from space!
✨ Fact 3: Accurate geospatial information is vital for modern life. From building new infrastructure and planning cities to navigating with satnavs, precise data underpins the technology and systems we rely on every day.
✨ Fact 4: The Ordnance Survey Active GNSS Network has replaced traditional benchmarks and trig pillars across the UK. This modern system provides precise real-time data for positioning, revolutionising how surveyors work.
Surveying connects history, technology, and the world around us in fascinating ways!
🎥 Which fun fact surprised you the most? Share it below! 🎄👇 #SurveyTrivia#12DaysOfTerraMeasurement 🎄 #EssentialGeospatial#SurveyTrivia#SurveyingThroughTime#GeospatialExperts
