As a professional, the shape of the site where a building is to be constructed plays a crucial role in effectively and efficiently planning the project. Furthermore, the shape of the land can also determine the layout of interior and exterior spaces, the location of vehicular and pedestrian access, and the integration of landscaping elements. Another important aspect is how the shape of the site influences circulation within and around the building. A narrow and elongated plot, for instance, may require a linear design to optimize the use of the available space, while an irregular site may lead to more creative and organic designs. In summary, the shape of the site is a fundamental factor that architects must consider from the early stages of design to create buildings that harmoniously integrate with their surroundings and function efficiently for their users. #BIM #Revit #Dynamo #Construction #collaboration #Architecture #bim_coordinator #bim_modeler #bim_manager #BuildingInformationModeling #architect #BuildingDesign #BIM_Projectct

Designing a building is complex. There are so many factors that influence how a building design solution is developed. Function and use of the building. Owner vision. City zoning requirements. Budget. Architect experience and input. A simple pre-manufactured metal building for a construction shop is a great example of this. We're working with the Owner and the City to comply with the city requirements while working to keep the project in line with the budget. Some of those city requirements include a minimum percentage of specific exterior materials for the entire building along with a minimum percentage those same materials on elevations that face a city street. Architectural features to diminish building mass are to be used by using variations in facade color, texture or both, variations in roof forms, and other possible measures are to be used. It's been a challenge but the challenge has been accepted. . . . . #wpaarchitecture #utaharchitect #industrialarchitecture #aiaarchitect #celebrating30years

Understanding Key Architectural & Construction Terms In the building industry, there are several factors which can affect the property value, such as home size and usable space, location, age and condition, upgrades and updates, renovation potential, economic factors, neighbours, street and name number. Of course, architects can’t help in the choice of the neighbours but they can indeed help with maximising the usable space, with upgrades and updates and with potential renovations. There are three essential areas where issues might affect not only the conditions of your house but also its energy efficiency; they are structures, insulation, condensation and rising damp. All these areas have specific language and as architects, we often use technical jargon that might sound unfamiliar to those outside the industry. Whether you're a client, a builder, or just curious about architecture, it’s helpful to understand some of these common terms: 🔧 RSJ (Rolled Steel Joist) An RSJ is a steel beam used in construction to support heavy loads, such as in the structural framework of buildings. It’s a critical component when creating open spaces without internal walls, providing strength and stability. 🏗️ Lintel A lintel is a horizontal beam placed over an opening, such as a door or window. It supports the weight of the structure above it, preventing the load from bearing directly onto the opening itself. 💧 Damp Proof Course (DPC) This is a protective barrier integrated into the walls of a building, usually near the base. It prevents rising damp, where moisture from the ground can seep into walls, causing damage and mold. 🌬️ Air Bricks Air bricks are perforated bricks installed in external walls. They allow ventilation under suspended floors, preventing dampness and maintaining air quality within a building. These are just a few examples, but they play a crucial role in the safety, functionality, and longevity of our buildings. Understanding them not only enhances communication between all parties involved in a project but also helps in making informed decisions. Saloria is here to help with all you architectural needs. Regulations Imposing Traditional Architectural Style on Modern Buildings -Case of GCC 2/20 The article aims to understand the culture of the region and how it has shaped the architecture. It assumes that architectural styles are representations of the culture and history of any region. Architecture is molded by culture, history, social, economic, and political factors. The governments of Arab Gulf countries have tried to embrace modernization and have implemented several regulations in all these factors. One such regulation is the implementation of traditional architectural style on modern buildings. The GCC was formed in 1981 to promote shared interests among its members, they sought to build and enhance a collective Arab identity in their nations. Although having certain commonalities that made Gulf culture unique to the Arabian Peninsula, each member nation had its distinct cultural heritage that was expressed through its traditional architecture. Recognizing that the physical environment is a key component of national identity and understanding architecture serves as a milestone of history, preservation, and architectural revival was a natural pursuit for Gulf states to undertake at the same time they were rapidly modernizing. The first of the Gulf States to newly establish rules aimed at ensuring architectural homogeneity with a focus on reflecting traditional style was Qatar in 1986 with its Qatar National Master Plan. The plan called for zoning given specific land use and unified architectural design with specific mention of using traditional building materials and distinguished Qatari architecture. Though the plan was not fully realized, it marked the beginning of a Gulf trend to promulgate rules dictating architectural design in the entity of national interest and seek the expertise of foreign architects in doing so.To assess the objectives of the various regulations imposed in their respective nations, the search for information entails contacting members of the municipality and officials who possess a concrete understanding of the goals of these regulations. Information will be gathered through telephonic interviews and distributed questionnaires which will not only provide the source with documented evidence of the conversation or response but will also provide a broad spectrum of objectives as the research will reach out to people of various backgrounds, rather than a particular social class or ethnic group. The information will be separated and categorized based on its respective location and influence of the regulation within a nation. As franchised establishments and multinational corporations have a great influence on the modernization of Arab cities and towns, many of these regulations have been imposed to affect the design of these international enterprises.
