A snippet from our recent podcast launch after the summer break speaking about all things OTT / Streaming in India and the Middle East. And this post is also about IBC which starts in Amsterdam this Friday: 🤘🏻 I will not be attending however this year's event is the first where AI in Media & Entertainment is increasingly "mainstream" - professionals that we speak with are looking for "cost saving" solutions and TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) conversations are common place. 🤘🏻 In addition to all the tech prowess, features, AI, beers etc, I would love to hear from attendees around conversations that spark solutions and business partnerships around "profitability", "monetization" and "investments" as this is critical for the health of the streaming industry! 🤘🏻 I saw a note around esports at IBC this year which is refreshing and I quote "Esports and gaming agency Unlocked is expanding its presence at IBC this year with a speaker programme spanning all four days of the show. Led by Co-Founder Steven Leunens, Unlocked aims to bridge the gap between traditional broadcasting media and the rapidly evolving world of esports." 🤘🏻Dare I say however it will be awesome to be a fly on the wall at EPTVI gatherings at IBC! "The European Programmatic TV Initiative (EPTVI), which has been formed by media tech companies – including The Trade Desk, PubMatic, Equativ, Magnite, Cadent and Adform – in conjunction with The Project X Initiative and up to 14 major European broadcasters, streamers and agency groups. As well as seeking to “create a comprehensive understanding of programmatic TV”, including its benefits and drawbacks, it also has a very defined objective of authoring a roadmap for the future development of programmatic TV in Europe." Do we require a global framework as well? 🤘🏻And finally, IBC’s 2024 Accelerator Programme is one to watch out for as POCs for 8 special projects will be demonstrated LIVE. 👉🏻 Energy-Conserving Optimization for Future-ready, Low-impact Online Workflows 👉🏻 IP Networks: Finding the Needle in the Haystack 👉🏻 Connecting Live Performances of the Future with ULL-AVLM (Ultra-Low Latency Audio, Video, Light and Media Data) 👉🏻 Design Your Weapons in the Fight Against Disinformation 👉🏻 Evolution of the Control Room - Leveraging XR, Voice, AI & HTML-Based Graphics Solutions 👉🏻 Digital Replicas and Talent ID: Provenance, Verification and New Automated Workflows 👉🏻 Scalable Ultra-Low Latency Streaming for Premium Sports 👉🏻 'AI Media Production Lab’, which will set out to explore a series of specific AI concepts in various guises of production.

Unleashing Gaming's Broad Appeal: A New Horizon for Traditional Broadcasting? By Jonathan Glazier: Shaping the Future of Storytelling Through Creative Digital Strategies In the vast and vibrant world of digital entertainment, computer gaming has surged past traditional hobbies, such as baking, in popularity. Yet, this digital behemoth seems to barely scratch the surface of traditional broadcasting and streaming platforms. Why is it that gaming, despite its vast appeal and engaging nature, hasn't made a more significant impact on traditional media? One possible explanation is that the gaming community, deeply immersed in their virtual worlds, has moved beyond the conventional confines of TV and streaming, opting instead for niche online channels that cater specifically to their interests. This shift raises important considerations for TV executives and content creators: how can we bridge the gap between the gaming world and traditional media to unlock gaming's full potential in broadcasting? To explore this further, I delved into the innovative work of Dennis Ooi, President of the Singapore Cybersports & Online Gaming Association (SCOGA). Ooi's work, particularly with the Senior GO! Esports Program, highlights gaming's universal appeal and its potential to engage diverse audiences, including seniors. The program's focus on esports as a tool to combat cognitive decline, foster social connections, and bridge generational gaps underscores the untapped potential of gaming content in mainstream media. The stories of the "S-Team," a group of Singaporean seniors who embraced gaming through the Senior GO! Program, further illustrate the transformative power of esports. These seniors, aged between 62 and 74, not only developed new skills and fought loneliness but also formed deep connections with each other and their families through gaming. Their journey is a powerful example of how gaming transcends age and can bring people together in meaningful ways. So, why hasn't gaming made a more pronounced dent in traditional broadcasting or streaming? The answer may lie not in the content itself but in our approach to integrating it. There is a clear opportunity for media professionals to innovate and find new ways to incorporate gaming content that appeals to both gamers and non-gamers alike. Whether through reality TV formats, like "Good Game Asia," or other creative strategies, the goal is to showcase gaming's social and cognitive benefits while tapping into its wide appeal. As we continue to shape the future of storytelling through innovative digital strategies, let's not overlook the potential of gaming to enrich the tapestry of global entertainment. By bridging the gap between the gaming world and traditional media, we can unlock new opportunities for engagement, storytelling, and community building. #GamingAndMedia #DigitalEntertainment #EsportsForAll #InnovativeBroadcasting #SeniorGaming #GoodGameAsia #FutureOfTV #jonathanglazier #jgtvdirector #altmedia

These emerging technologies are poised to revolutionize the way we consume sports content, offering immersive experiences like never before. Firstly, let's talk about 5G. The rollout of 5G networks is set to significantly enhance streaming quality and reliability, allowing for seamless high-definition viewing experiences even in crowded stadiums or remote locations.
