Since about more than 90% of India's trade by volume is conducted via the country’s maritime route, there is a continuous need to develop India's ports and trade related infrastructure to accelerate growth in the manufacturing industry and to assist the 'Make in India' initiative. India has 12 major ports and approximately 200 non-major ports administered by Central and State Governments respectively. As per the studies conducted under the Sagarmala Program , it is expected that by 2025, cargo traffic at Indian ports will be approximately 2500 MMTPA while the current cargo handling capacity of Indian ports is only 2400+ MMTPA. A roadmap has been prepared for increasing the Indian port capacity to 3300+ MMTPA by 2025 to cater to the growing traffic. This includes port operational efficiency improvement, capacity expansion of existing ports and new port development. Our Managing Director, Mr. Vaibhav Vohra, had the distinct honour of being part of the esteemed Speaker Panel at the Air Cargo Forum India (ACFI) Conclave 2024, held on July 4 at the Taj Palace, New Delhi. He actively contributed to Business Session 1, which centered on the theme "Soaring Ambitions: Building India’s Air Cargo Capacity, Paving the Way for a Developed India." This session also featured industry luminaries such as Camilo Garcia Cervera, Vishal Bhatnagar, Capt.Nikhil B. Ved, Sanjiv Edward, and Manoj Singh, each bringing invaluable insights to the discussion. During this impactful session, Mr. Vohra emphasised the critical need for the creation of off-airport locations and hubs dedicated to cargo handling activities in Tier II and Tier III cities. He advocated for the strategic movement of cargo to metro airports through the utilisation of multimodal transportation. This approach, he explained, would decentralise cargo operations, reduce congestion at major airports, and enhance the efficiency of cargo movement across the nation. Mr. Vohra also highlighted the expectations of exporters from the logistics industry. He underscored that exporters should be provided with the best possible transportation packages tailored to their product needs. Importantly, Mr. Vohra stressed the necessity for exporters to be fully informed of all costs and taxes involved in the transportation process. This transparency would enable exporters to focus on their core business activities without the additional burden of managing the complexities of product transportation. In addition to his participation in the panel, Mr. Vohra was felicitated by notable figures Sakshi Gupta, Shivam Khattar, and Sanjiv Edward, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the air cargo industry.
