Press Information Bureau #PIB, Government of India Hon'ble Union Health Minister Shri JP Nadda JIto launch 100-day intensified campaign to address the challenges of TB incidence and mortality in India today 7th December, 2024 in #Panchkula, #Haryana The initiative, set to be implemented across 347 districts in 33 States and Union Territories has been designed to enhance TB case detection, reduce diagnostic delays, and improve treatment outcomes, particularly in high-risk groups. It represents yet another significant strategic effort by the country in its bid to strengthen programmatic activities and reduce disparities in TB outcomes across diverse regions of the country to achieve the aim of TB elimination. This initiative is in line with the vision of a TB-Mukt Bharat that was laid out by the Hon’ble #PrimeMinister, Shri Narendra Modi ji, at the 2018 #Delhi #EndTB #Summit. Since then, critical initiatives have been launched by the programme to strengthen prevention, diagnostic, and treatment services across the country. The 100-day #campaign envisages improving programme performance on key output indicators viz. TB incidence rates, #diagnostic coverage, and mortality rates. 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 India has been seeing a rise in healthcare cost inflation. In 2024, medical inflation at 14% outpaced general inflation that averaged 5-6%. An angioplasty now costs ₹2-3 lakh compared to ₹1-1.5 lakh in 2018. Kidney transplant costs have doubled from ₹5-8 lakh in 2018 to ₹10-15 lakh in 2024. And could double further in the next couple of years. It may be attributed to higher technological costs, higher demand, increased awareness since the pandemic, rising service costs, an uptick in medical tourism, and rising raw material costs. Hospitalization soared 12.8%. This level of escalation is unsustainable, and market correction will have to kick in. #rise #healthcare #cost #inflation #medical #pandemic #market

The Union Health Secretary, Apurva Chandra, highlighted the similarities of this year’s theme, “All for Health, Health for All” with the age-old Indian tradition of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam which means the “world is one family”. He stated that under this theme, “India launched the Ayushman Bharat meaning “Live Long India” to promote Universal Health Coverage by operationalizing more than 1,60,000 Health and Wellness centers (Ayushman Aarogya Mandir)." He also highlighted that as per the WHO SPAR report, India has a core capacity score of 86% to detect, assess, report and respond to any health emergencies. “Today, India is on the verge of eliminating Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL) disease and has also reduced the TB incidence and mortality”, he stated.
