In my journey through the business world, I've often heard about the importance of marketing and sales. They're seen as the keys to success because, no matter how amazing your product is, if people don't see it the way you do, it's kind of useless. However, today, I've come to realize that to truly excel as a founder or manager, one must first understand the essence of customer care. Working as a customer care executive provides invaluable insights into the intricacies of customer relationships, nurturing qualities like emotional stability, patience, empathy, and soft skills. Undoubtedly, the role of a customer care executive is one of the most underrated in any organization. They bear the brunt of customer frustrations daily, yet they have to handle it with grace and resilience. A recent interaction with a customer care executive from Niva Bupa Health Insurance made me realize the immense effort and patience required for this role. The call lasted over two hours, and it made me realize just how much effort it takes to listen and address concerns, even when there's no quick fix. This revelation prompts me to shed light on the often-overlooked life of customer care professionals. They navigate between the demands of the system and the expectations of dissatisfied customers, all while maintaining emotional stability—a feat that I consider one of the toughest in any profession. While the situation wasn't resolved instantaneously (which, to be fair, could be due to factors on both sides), the exceptional service provided by Niva Bupa left a lasting impression. I must commend Niva Bupa for their exceptional customer service. And a big shoutout to Mr. Danish (I don't know him in person), who showed me what true patience and dedication look like by taking a 2-hour call with a customer. Reflecting on this experience, I recognize the crucial role that patience and emotional resilience play in managerial positions and personal growth. I firmly believe that every senior manager should consider spending time in a customer support role. Imagine the impact on leadership if everyone understood the intricacies of customer challenges. It would foster empathy, resilience, and ultimately, better business decisions. I would greatly appreciate it if Niva Bupa Health Insurance could pass this post to Mr. Danish as well.

What is it that the best #AccountManagers do to set them apart? A question posed to us recently during a workshop - so we got a few people round the table and collated our thoughts based on the best people we had all seen over the years. I drew some of my inspiration from a former colleague, George Maxwell (who I know many of my contacts will have come across during their time at RSA, Brit Insurance, Covéa Insurance, QBE Insurance - either as a colleague or an attendee at one of many workshops or events George supported throughout his career - both as a consultant and in his very active role with the Chartered Insurance Institute). In this article we talk about - ability to develop and manage relationships - gathering and using insight from the client, their industry and their own business to identify opportunities that will will generate mutual value - co-creating and driving plans that bring the identified value to fruition - and last 'presence' or gravitas My colleagues drew from their own role models to distil their attributes into the above four capability areas. We would love to give you the opportunity to contribute to this post by sharing your own thoughts on: 1. Someone that you have always held up as a great Account Manager - give them a shout out here. 2. What you think a great Account Manager does that sets them above the rest? #accountmanagement; #relationships; Dr Mark Hollyoake Peter Lavers Paul Cranston, MBA Ellie L. Gary Lunt David Brown
