I recently discovered the Shedler-Westen Assessment Procedure (SWAP-200), which has changed my approach to my clinical practice. (This is a game-changer for psychological assessment) The SWAP tool offers a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of an individual's personality structure, offering insights beyond the DSM. After trying it out on a few sample cases, I was highly impressed by the detail and precision. Each assessment feels like peeling back layers to really understand the core of an individual’s psychological makeup, which allows for more personalized therapy. In my experience, tools that provide such deep insights are uncommon, making them incredibly valuable. The SWAP could revolutionize our approach to psychological assessment and treatment. It's not just about diagnosing and treating symptoms; it's about truly understanding the intricate web of personality traits that influence behavior and mental health. I highly recommend that fellow clinicians explore the Shedler-Westen Assessment Procedure. It has been a game-changer tool for me and can significantly enhance our client's quality of care. #PsychologicalAssessment #MentalHealth #ClinicalPractice #TherapyTools #ShedlerWesten #MentalHealthProfessionals #ClinicalPsychology #Psychotherapy #Healthcare

Please join us on June 22 at 11:00am CST for this presentation of new, original research from PsiAN, with thanks to our CE-sponsoring partner, Institute for Clinical Social Work. We started this process in 2020 with original research – the first of its kind – and we learned what the public wants from therapy, their biases and misperceptions, obstacles to seeking care, and more. Now we have new research from late 2023, and offer a post-pandemic read on the public's perception of their own mental health, and their attitudes towards therapy, apps, and more. Please join us for this deep dive into the public’s attitudes, preferences, biases and misperceptions. Discussion to follow. Presenters include Linda Michaels, PsiAN Chair & Co-founder and Santiago Delboy, psychotherapist and clinical supervisor. Moderated by Bevin Campbell, psychotherapist. https://lnkd.in/gx4WsCN9 #psychotherapy #therapy #mentalhealthmatters

In the journey of becoming a therapist, it's essential to navigate the depths of our own experiences. Just as a sailor understands the vastness of the sea by sailing through its waves, therapists gain insight by delving into their own wounds. This isn't about dwelling in pain, but rather, understanding and transforming it into wisdom. By embracing our vulnerabilities, we cultivate empathy and genuine connection with those we aim to help. Remember, the most resonant guidance often comes from those who've journeyed through their own storms and emerged with clarity. To all therapists in training: Embrace your journey, for it molds you into the beacon of hope and understanding for others. #therapists #psychologist #psychotherapy #therapy #mentalhealth

NOV 28, 2023: HERE'S A RESEARCH-BACKED APPROACH TO HELPING TEENS (AND ADULTS TOO!) BETTER CONTROL THEIR NEGATIVE THOUGHTS! "This adolescent clinical trial further demonstrates that depressive rumination is a brain-based mechanism that is modifiable via RF-CBT. Here, we replicated that RF-CBT reduces cross-network connectivity, a possible mechanism by which rumination becomes less frequent, intense, and automatic." **LESSONS: (1) Rumination-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (RF-CBT) targets repetitive negative thinking in mental health conditions like depression and anxiety, aiming to foster positive & healthy thought patterns. (2) Utilizing the S.P.O.R.T. Coaching Process, this intervention provides a structured approach to help clients manage rumination / negative thinking. We are thrilled to announce that we have been invited by the Idaho Society of Individual Psychology to present an Advanced Workshop that will take place on April 12-13 in Boise, Idaho and will be live-streamed via Zoom! Join Dr. Bill Pettit, psychiatrist, and Dr. Linda Sandel Pettit, author, speaker, mentor and retired counseling psychologist, for two days of insightful discussions on mental health, psychology, and the three universal principles of mind, consciousness, and thought. Register now at www.adleridaho.org and take advantage of the early bird discount for this affordable event! At the workshop, we will explore the connection between our spiritual, psychological, and physiological nature, and discuss the salutary purpose of emotional and physical distress. We will also delve into the healing power of laughter, and why it has the same potential for mental distress recovery as Ketamine, LSD, Psilocybin, and ECT. And lastly, we will touch on the importance of hope and how psychiatric diagnoses are an attempt to describe where we are, not who we are. Don't miss out on this incredible opportunity to learn from two influencers at the common boundaries of psychology and spirituality. Register now and join us for a thought-provoking workshop! www.adleridaho.org #drbillpettit #lindasandelpettit #neverbroken #NothingLacking #thewildintuitivewayoflove #mentalhealth #mentalwellbeing #psychology #adlerianpsychology #individualpsychology #mentalhealthtreatment #mentalhealthworkshop #3principles #ThreePrinciples
