𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐝𝐨 𝐬𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐩𝐡𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐄𝐌𝐑𝐬? The truth is EMRs were originally designed with one main goal in mind: billing. The focus was primarily on billing while note-taking for patient care took a backseat. And that’s where the frustration comes in. Physicians didn’t sign up to become billers or data entry clerks, yet most EMRs turn doctors into exactly that. Many find themselves spending more time with the EMR than with their patients—leading to worse patient care. The very tools meant to streamline healthcare are adding more stress instead. I remember Scott J. Campbell MD, MPH said it best: “𝑫𝒐𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒔 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒆𝒙𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒍𝒚 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒅𝒂𝒕𝒂 𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒚 𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒔.” But here's the thing: it doesn't have to be this way! A lot of people believe it’s the physician's responsibility to maintain patient EMR files. But in reality, it’s a 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭. The medical team—including nurses, medical assistants, and office staff—can take on the pain of updating patient records and handling administrative duties. This is where outsourcing certain tasks like billing and claims management to specialized companies can make a real difference. By shifting these responsibilities, practices free up physicians to focus on leading care, while the outsourced team handles the rest in the background. It’s about creating a system where the 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦 contributes to healthcare, with the physician leading—not bogged down by paperwork. Ultimately, the heart of healthcare is patient care, not wrestling with EMR systems—and that's where the true impact lies. #healthcare #healthcareIT #EMR #Physianburnout #teamwork
