In light of the existing conditions, and the ruthless terrorist attacks of Israel on Gaza, I've been reflecting on the guidelines Islam instructs Muslims to follow in times of wars, hereunder are very few of them:
"Fight in the cause of Allah against those who wage war against you, but do not exceed the limits. Surely Allah does not like transgressors." Surat Al Baqarah: Verse 190
"If the enemy is inclined towards peace, make peace with them. And put your trust in Allah. Indeed, He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing." Surat Al Anfal: Verse 61
In a famous decree, Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, the first Caliph, told his military commander: “Stop, O people, that I may give you ten rules for guidance on the battlefield:
1- Do not commit treachery or deviate from the right path.
2- You must not mutilate dead bodies.
3- Do not kill a woman, a child, or an aged man.
4- Do not cut down fruitful trees.
5- Do not destroy inhabited areas.
6- Do not slaughter any of the enemies’ sheep, cow or camel except for food.
7- Do not burn date palms, nor inundate them.
8- Do not embezzle (e.g. no misappropriation of booty or spoils of war).
9- Do not be guilty of cowardliness.
10- You are likely to pass by people who have devoted their lives to monastic services, leave them alone."
