Your ability to move, turn, and get up and off the ground is not appreciated until you are older. It’s when you are in your 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80’s that exercise matters the most. Contrary to what you see on social media, exercise becomes more important the older you get. Loss of leg strength is one of the strongest predictors for being placed in a nursing home. Loss of mobility increases your risk of falls. Loss of strength and muscle is a predictor of disease. Your ability to perform is not for “looks”; it is a measure of your health. Being able to move your body weight in a safe way is a predictor of your health. This becomes particularly true for cancer survivors. Treatment alone can severely lower strength, mobility, range of motion, and muscle mass. This is why exercising during treatement is crucial. Because while treatement kills the cancer, it also destroys your body. But you need the treatement. Therefore, the best way to go through treatment is to limit how much damage it actually does through exercise. And if you don’t know where to start, focus on moving more ➡️ including a walk daily ➡️ doing 2-3 sets of 4-8 exercises ➡️ increasing your intensity / weigh For weight training, your 4 movements of priority should be a push, pull, squat, hinge.
