What inspired you to become a technician? - I became a tech to be in a field that is stable and reliable in a rapidly changing economy. My very first job, at age 14, taught me a lot. I worked as an assistant maintenance guy at a mobile home park in rural southeast Ohio. That summer, the septic system for the park had an issue. The head maintenance guy handed me a shovel and told me the pit had to be shoveled out. It was hot, stinky work, and I was earning $2.00 an hour. I spent the afternoon shoveling human crap (and other things people flush down a toilet). So what did I learn? 1. No job is beneath me. (Why I never utter the phrase, "I don't get paid enough to do this.") 2. If it is worth doing, it is worth putting your best effort into the work. 3. There is pride in a job well done even if the job is stinky, gross, and maybe not even legal. What are some great lessons you learned from your job(s) before you found your career?

Buying a farrier rig is the most expensive single purchase you will make in your hoof-care career. Even the combined costs of your required tools and necessary inventory don’t come close to the cost of a reliable, well-planned rig.

Mahesh Gupta Where are you Cheater? Kent RO Systems Ltd. Worst experience. Within 1 year of installation, the RO water filter starts giving problem. Service calls are useless, technicians don’t visit in time and thier senior regional staff misbehaves with customers. Technician will force you to change the equipment at every service call which will cost you minimum of Rs.5000/- it’s just the cartels of technicians and their seniors to make quick money. Never get into trap of their tall promise. All are hands in gloves. Even their senior management don’t listen. Immediate action needs to be taken for cheating and fraudulent state of affairs of Kent RO system. They can hire celebrity for their third class product but can’t spend on service improvement.

When joining a practice as an OHT there are any number of things you might not have thought of that will help you settle into your new job smoothly. Practices vary on how organised they are with documentation as well as how much time and expertise other team members have to help you. It can be difficult to ask questions when you are feeling nervous starting a new job. But not asking them may  make life way more difficult. Here are three important things to find out. 1. Expectations regarding clean down, set up and assistance 2. Read the operating instructions for the equipment such as x-ray machines, OPG, EMS Airflow and whitening light/equipment 3. Ask for a copy of the specialists the practice refers to and the process for writing referrals These are just a few examples, there many more. Make a note each day of things that crop up and make sure you ask!

Being able to pass my knowledge down to the next generation. - Greatest technical skill: The ability to use my experience to adapt and think on my feet to do a job safely. - Best advice to share with a new technician: Respect and listen to employees that have years of knowledge and know safe ways of doing a job task! - Hobbies and interests outside work: I love old equipment, farm tractors, cars, and trucks. I enjoy riding my Harley-Davidson and walking my dog. - One thing he can't live without: His job, family, wife, and friends!
