Effective communication with your builder is crucial when starting a construction project. Engaging directly allows for open discussions about your vision, practical challenges, and tailored solutions. This clarifies expectations, optimises design, and ensures successful outcomes by leveraging the builder's expertise for efficient project execution.

In construction management, there’s no shortage of decisions to make—some small, some monumental. I've learned a simple but powerful lesson: trust your process, but stay open to recalibrating when new information emerges. I remember a project where a seemingly minor site issue revealed larger underlying challenges. Instead of pushing forward as planned, we paused to reassess. It wasn’t easy to step back, but that recalibration saved time and money in the long run—and reinforced the importance of remaining flexible yet decisive. The takeaway? A strong process isn’t rigid; it’s dynamic. It evolves to address the realities on the ground.

Frustrating delays. Budget blowouts. They're just part of any construction project, Right? Just because those problems are common, That doesn't mean they have to be the norm. Projects usually run into these issues Because the vision's not clear from the start. Instead, the different teams involved in the project are making decisions on the fly Without all the information they need. So it's no wonder this slows things down And causes all kinds of delays. This is why we place so much importance on the planning phase. Our multi-disciplinary team means we have expertise in all aspects of the project. And we can work together to create a vision that will be cost-effective While getting you the outcome you're looking for. Because you don't want your project to run into delays, And neither do we!

The Faux Understanding of Constructability “You can’t fix that which doesn’t want to be fixed” or something like that. Obviously, inanimate objects have no desire to be or understanding of what being fixed means. Yet, human participants operating within their own sphere of influence or “silo”, repeatedly profess understanding of constructability while demonstrating a true lack of that understanding. Many don't want to be fixed and will, apparently, take an inanimate approach to the entire situation. A lot of organizations have siloes, probably none more than in the utility spectrum. While some of these organizations are better than others in overcoming these siloes and the issues those siloes transpose on the performance of work, they are still siloed. Constructability is a debilitating “buzz” word sweeping the industry these days. And while many will question the use of an adjective such as “debilitating”, this lack of understanding is debilitating in so many ways. Being one who has seen the real impacts of a lack of “constructability”, I also know that I am not always the best versed to judge or drive constructability in certain phases of a project. I’ve been on my share of construction sites. These were not just day trips or site visits but I’ve worked out of these sites and have been accountable for the work, at a high level, being performed. Yet, I know that I’m not the “best” person to view, drive, or infuse a sense of constructability in that setting. Yet, I have numerous customers and clients that continually argue and BCD (Blame, Complain, & Defend) their views on constructability, their input into constructability, and their ownership of constructability only within their narrow, siloed world. Basically, everyone thinks everyone else owns and needs to implement constructability but not themselves. The truth is, everyone has a hand in making a project constructable and it’s not just the constructors. The truth boils down to this simple fact: as long as communication and teamwork fail due to the lack of an effective and comprehensive project management approach, constructability will be an unattainable pipe dream. Project lifecycle stakeholders will continue to claim their limits of and protections from constructability, leaving the ultimate stakeholders (rate payers, regulators, and the public at large) in a lurch and footing the resultant increased costs. #projectmanagement #constructability
