This week our colleagues Lucas Segal, Nick Dietrich and Justine Fleur van der Feen attended the 3rd Plenary Meeting of the Sunrise Project EU in beautiful Bilbao, hosted by OSAKIDETZA SERVICIO VASCO DE SALUD and IIS Biobizkaia. 🎯 PredictBy is pleased to be part of the SUNRISE project, aimed at preventing cancer by promoting sustainable health behaviour change in adolescents from diverse socio-cultural contexts through innovative and digital tools. The development of the customised tools involves co-creation activities with relevant stakeholders across eight European countries, where the tools will be implemented and evaluated. During the meeting, we presented our contributions to identifying psycho-social, ethical and legal requirements through a preliminary feasibility assessment and PESTLE analysis of the school based cancer prevention programme with digital tools. 🚀 SUNRISE is part of the Prevention and Early Detection Cluster (behavioural change) together with the projects Meliora Project and iBeChange. 🌟 Together, we are shaping a healthier future for the next generation, empowering adolescents with knowledge, tools, and support to reduce cancer risk and promote long-term well-being. #Cancerprevention #adolescents #behaviourchange #digitalhealth #behaviouralscience #Innovation Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH) | Dr Andreas Triantafyllidis | FAVO | Laura Del Campo | Chiara Pilotti | IOCN | Delia Nicoară Nina Nicoara | Ghent University | Emma Beuckels | Liselot Hudders | PASYKAF | Youth Cancer Europe | Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) | University of Sydney | Ellinogermaniki Agogi | PARTICLE | Alma Mater Europaea| Vlaams Instituut Gezond Leven | Fisabio foundation | Osakidetza | IIS Biobizkaia | BRIDG-OU | ISGF I Severin Haug

✨ This week the stars aligned between #Boston and #Basel, with huge developments at two major research centers focused on the potential of the immune system to prevent, diagnose, and treat diseases. 🇺🇸 In the Boston area, the Ragon Institute of Mass General, MIT, and Harvard celebrated the opening of its new headquarters, located in the heart of Cambridge’s Kendall Square. Founded in 2009, the institute brings together scientists and engineers from its three member institutions to better understand the immune system and support human health. On June 17, Our CEO Benjamin Bollmann attended the grand opening of the new building in the presence of Massachusetts Governor Maura Healy, as well as Anne Klibanski, president and CEO of Mass General Brigham, Sally Kornbluth, president of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Alan Garber, interim president of Harvard University, and Bruce D Walker, director of the Ragon Institute. 🇨🇭 On June 18, the new Botnar Institute of Immune Engineering – BIIE launched in Basel, with the goal of developing novel immune-based diagnostics and therapeutics and addressing gaps in advanced healthcare technologies. Supported by a $1 billion endowment by the Fondation Botnar, the institute already has partnerships planned with ETH Zürich and the University of Oxford, with more to be announced. For now, the institute will be hosted by the ETH-Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering (D-BSSE), until it moves into a purpose-built research facility for up to 300 scientists at the Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area in 2027. 🇺🇸🇨🇭 We look forward to a bright future for immune-based innovation in Boston and Basel, and to expanding collaboration between these two global #lifesciences hubs! This article does a great job describing the challenges researchers face trying to sustain funding. The focus is mostly on biomedical research but we struggle with these same issues in the social sciences. Bridge funding could really help ease the stress and burden, but I haven’t seen opportunities for these resources in social science research. I hope we can find ways to change this situation and address the inefficiencies of grant funding.

📢 Read BBMRI-ERIC’s six key messages for the next European Framework Programme (FP10) in this post. And get the full position paper here: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/d3qv8xkD This position paper aims to ensure that FP10 priorities incorporate key fields of health and life science research building on Research Infrastructures, like the European biobanking infrastructure. ❗️#FP10 topic 1: Focus on a “One Health” approach in research. “One Health” promotes cross-disciplinary scientific collaboration. Empowering research in “One Health” using existing ERICs will drive innovation at the intersection of human, animal, and environmental health. ❗️#FP10 topic 2: Accelerate and advance research in the fields of cancer, rare diseases and paediatrics. Combatting cancer must remain a central focus for EU policy and funding to foster synergies of collaborative research initiatives in cancer in FP10. ❗️#FP10 topic 3: Shape the European Health Data Space (EHDS). The EHDS is paramount for future breakthroughs. BBMRI-ERIC, part of the EHDS2Pilot project, explores how to optimally support EHDS implementation regarding the reuse of health data for research and policymaking. ❗️#FP10 topic 4: Strengthen international research partnerships. Working towards global health strategies implies expanding research partnerships across all continents. Funding new collaborations in FP10 will help to align research efforts to jointly address key challenges. ❗️#FP10 topic 5: Consolidate research efforts by enabling access to different funding initiatives. Confining Research Infrastructures to their Work Programmes is a lost chance for a wider use of their resources. FP10 needs overarching concepts across domains and dataspaces. ❗️#FP10 topic 6: Avoid further diversification of the RI landscape. We call upon the EC to channel resources and efforts towards fortifying existing ERICs as strategic assets, and encourage close collaboration with initiatives to avoid fragmentation of the RI landscape.
