Honoring Veterans Who Lost Their Lives to Suicide Today, while walking my dog, we came across a powerful and poignant display of American flags. These flags were placed to remember and honor the veterans in Alabama who have lost their lives to suicide—a sobering reminder of the battles many continue to fight even after returning home. As we walked past each flag, I couldn’t help but think of the countless stories of courage, sacrifice, and the immense burden carried by these heroes. Veterans have given so much to protect our freedoms, and it’s heartbreaking to know that many struggle in silence. Each flag represents a life lost, a family grieving, and a community mourning the absence of someone who served with honor and bravery. It’s a stark reminder of the importance of supporting mental health resources and spreading awareness about the struggles veterans face. Organizations like Vets for Hope are doing essential work by providing resources and support to veterans in need. By raising awareness and advocating for these heroes, we can honor their memory and strive to prevent future tragedies. If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out. Support is available, and you are not alone. Let’s continue to honor our veterans—not just with flags but through action, compassion, and a commitment to make a difference in their lives. To learn more and get involved, visit Vets for Hope. Together, we can be the hope and support that our veterans deserve. #veterans #suicide #supportourvets #rememberhonorvets https://lnkd.in/ek-m4wbV

#ForMany veterans, the effects of military trauma can make the transition to civilian life anything but easy. Without our help, lives can become desperate. Anxiety, anger, depression, isolation, alcohol and drug misuse, and in some cases suicide – all can tear families apart, destroy relationships and devastate lives. Every day, 17 Veterans lose their lives to suicide—a heartbreaking statistic that demands our immediate attention. These are our heroes, our friends, and our family members, and we owe it to them to take action now. As clinicians, it is our duty to have those tough conversations. Asking direct questions like "Have you thought about killing yourself?" can make all the difference. It's a difficult question, but one that could save a life. Utilizing the ASQ (Ask Suicide-Screening Questions) assessment during every intake can help identify those at risk and ensure they receive the support they need. This simple, yet powerful tool can guide us in providing the care and intervention our Veterans deserve. Let’s stand together and commit to making a difference. Reach out to Stop Soldier Suicide for resources and support. Our Veterans fought for us—it's time we fight for them. #WaypointVets #SuicidePrevention #Veterans #MentalHealth #StopSoldierSuicide #ASQAssessment #SupportOurHeroes

September is National Suicide Prevention Month. As a Military and Veteran Community member, I have had far too many friends who are no longer with us. It is an unfortunate reality of the profession. For years, it has been reported that the Veteran suicide rate was 22 a day. Many of us in the community have said that the number was probably half of the true number. Well, according to a report this year, the actual number is at least 40-44 veterans a day who die from suicide. There is nothing worse than realizing how many lives we are losing to the battle at home compared to those lost in combat or training. We need to make talking about what is going on with ourselves a normal part of the daily conversation. There is strength in being open about all of the things that we are fighting. Finding your team who you trust to let in is a process, but once you find them things start to change and get better. The important thing to remember is that we are not alone in our battles and struggles. #Suicide #SuicidePrevention #SuicideAwareness #NationalSuicidePreventionMonth #StrongerThanStigma #Veteran #Military #BruceTalk
