Today is International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, IDAHOTB. Today reminds us that those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, Two-Spirit, or non-binary continue to experience significant disparities – including negative mental health impacts, unemployment, homelessness, harassment, and bullying. This important day of recognition is a reminder to us all that equality and equity is necessary for all. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment shared #equalopportunitypolicy for transgender persons and also uploaded it on their website. You can access the document from the mentioned link- https://lnkd.in/gPQputfX This policy complies with the 2020 Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) regulations in an effort to end discrimination, promote equal opportunity, and establish a working culture that upholds the rights and dignity of transgender people. The policy establishes a strong grievance redressal process in lieu of discrimination, harassment, and bias in order to ensure that transgender people are treated fairly. The responsibilities of the Ministry has been outlined as well, which also mandates the compliance officer to address the issues of TG persons at the workspaces. Trans or Gender Fluid? 🌈 Understanding the nuances of gender identity can be complex, especially when it comes to children. The Human Rights Campaign offers valuable insight: consistency, insistence, and persistence are key indicators of a child's transgender or nonbinary identity. If a child consistently, insistently, and persistently expresses a gender identity that differs from the one assigned at birth, they are likely transgender. It's not just about occasional preferences; it's about a deep-seated sense of self over time. Yet, their resilience shines brightly, enlightening the path toward a world free from prejudice and discrimination. A world where gender identity and expression are not just tolerated but celebrated.
