In 2010, DEAM was first proclaimed in Canada. Manitoba was the first province to issue a proclamation that year, followed by Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Québec, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Nunavut, and Newfoundland and Labrador in ensuing years. Typically, DEAM is celebrated in October, but variations occur in some regions. . #disability #ability #employmentagency #winnipeg #canada #jobs #help #community #ableto #employer #InclusionWorks #DEAM

An interesting article published by Local Government Lawyer looks at an Ombudsman's decision about the placing of a family in temporary accomodation and recommends that the housing needs of ALL family members are taken into consideration when agreeing placement and consideration should also be given to maximum travel times as set out in guidance. This is particularly relevant given the distances some families are expected to travel when placed in temporary accomodations. #school #education #schoolsupport #housing #schooltransport #SEND https://buff.ly/3UQURNY An insightful piece featured on Local Government Lawyer delves into a recent ruling by an Ombudsman regarding the placement of a family in temporary housing. Temporary accommodation - a meaningless term. This is the view of some commentators as new research shows that too many children are spending the entirety of their childhoods in accommodation that was intended to be temporary. The research suggests that over one in five people in temporary accommodation have been there for over five years. On that basis, it’s hard to disagree when people express their concern that there’s nothing ‘temporary’ about this arrangement. This is why we’re focussed on long-term solutions in the work we do. Our outreach workers go above and beyond to form relationships built on trust, to signpost them to any additional services they may need. As another budget fails to address the issue, when will the government start trying to find long-term, sustainable solutions? #homelessness #temporaryaccommodation #government

Many housing initiatives in Belgium focus on prioritising Belgian citizens. However, CLTB, the first CLT implemented in continental Europe, is working to address the housing needs of vulnerable communities, including immigrants. Over 80% of the CLT's residents are immigrants or refugees, making the organization vital for addressing historically unmet needs in the region. Its comprehensive approach is a powerful way to build communities and address the root issues associated with affordable or social housing. #CLT #Immigrants #Housing #SocialHousing

🏠 Embracing Diversity: The Rise of Landlords Housing Asylum Seekers and Those in Need 🌍 In recent years, there's been a noticeable shift in the landscape of rental properties. Traditionally, our clients focus has been on accommodating working professionals. However, there appears to be a growing trend among landlords – one that prioritises compassion and community support. More and more of our clients are choosing to open their doors to asylum seekers, refugees, and individuals facing challenging circumstances. This decision isn't just about filling units; it's about embracing diversity and making a positive impact on society. Here are a few reasons why I believe this trend is worth celebrating: 1. Fostering Inclusivity: By welcoming asylum seekers and others in need, we're creating inclusive communities where everyone feels valued and supported. Inclusivity isn't just a buzzword; it's a fundamental aspect of building strong, resilient neighbourhoods. 2. Making a Difference: Landlords have a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people's lives. Providing safe and stable housing for those who need it most can be life-changing, offering them a fresh start and a sense of hope for the future. 3. Building Bridges: Housing asylum seekers and refugees isn't just about providing shelter; it's about building bridges across cultures and fostering understanding. By opening our properties to individuals from diverse backgrounds, we're promoting unity and empathy in our communities. 4. Supporting Local Initiatives: Many landlords are partnering with local organisations and charities to facilitate housing for asylum seekers and others in need. These partnerships not only benefit those seeking shelter but also contribute to the overall welfare of the community. 5. Financial Benefits: Beyond the social impact, there can be financial benefits to housing asylum seekers. Government programs and support networks are often available to assist with rent payments and other expenses, providing a reliable source of income for landlords. As members of the landlord community, let's continue to lead by example and show that compassion and profitability can go hand in hand. Together, we can create a future where housing is a basic right for all, regardless of background or circumstance. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this growing trend. Have you considered opening your properties to asylum seekers or individuals in need? Let's start a conversation and explore how we can make a difference, one rental unit at a time. #HousingForAll #CommunitySupport #LandlordLife #landlord #socialhousing

Indigenous communities in Canada have long been marginalized - underserved in the economy and by government, underrepresented in politics, and, as most know, unfairly treated in terms of land taken from them even before Canada was created as a nation. Much has been both suffered and achieved since, and much more has been accomplished in the past six years since National Indigenous Peoples Day was formally introduced. However, there is still even more to be done in addressing many of the unfair and discriminatory practices (https://bit.ly/3z6PKjG) Indigenous Peoples continue to face, among them a lack of adequate housing. Inadequate housing conditions are worsened by difficulties in accessing mortgage loans and other financial resources. These barriers underline the urgent need for systemic change and equitable support. It's crucial that we come together to advocate for sustainable solutions and support initiatives that prioritize housing equity and ensure every Indigenous community member has access to safe and dignified housing. #NationalIndigenousPeoplesDay #HousingEquity
