The job fair is 1 week away, sign up today! This is not your ordinary job fair! • We will provide and set up your table and chairs. • We will provide coffee, water & lunch. • Please bring a tablecloth, any table decorations/marketing materials, and applications. • Wi-fi will be available, but please bring your own electronics and extension cords. About the culture at Better Together job fairs: • Culture of Celebration - We will celebrate every person and every opportunity which they find at the job fair. Make a big deal out of interviews, job offers, and other meaningful interactions. We also want to celebrate them and the employers! • Opportunity Bell - One of the most obvious ways we celebrate. If you extend an on-the-spot job offer, please come up to the bell with your new employee to ring it together so we can all stop, clap, cheer, and celebrate with you. • Job Coaches - Volunteers will be working with and encouraging job seekers throughout the day. If you are looking for something specific or not having a lot of luck, flag down a coach so they can be on the lookout for exactly what you need. Their job is to make matches and get job seekers ready to meet you, so help them do their jobs better by interacting with them. • What is your one more step? - We love it when people receive information about open positions and how to apply - that’s fantastic. But, we would love to challenge you to take one more step than you have taken before at job fairs and try interviewing on the spot, conducting screening steps before they’ve left the building, inviting job seekers for appointments or interviews at specific set times at your facility, or even offering on the spot jobs. 20/20 Levels Job Fair - The Sequel ✅ You know you did something right when you get invited back again! 😂 Last night myself, Lyandra Gondo & Kate Cawood were back at the 20/20 Levels Jobs Fair delivering some interview techniques workshops and promoting all things great about working for Travelex What do 20/20 Levels do? They empower black and racially underrepresented young people through opportunities to maximise their potential. If there’s anyone just starting out in your career, graduates, school leavers, apprentices I’d like to give some advice that I wish someone gave me starting out in my career. 💡It’s ok to not know what you want to do or be. Too much pressure is focused on social media about being a CEO by the time you’re 24 years old. 💡In any job, you should be either earning or learning, ideally both. If it’s nether, the job isn’t serving you a purpose and you need to question your worth and value in that environment. 💡You work for the job, but the job also needs to work for you! 💡Make some mistakes, samples the jobs buffet, earn some money, find out what truly gets you out of bed in the morning and harness that hunger, drive and desire. 💡Enjoy it, you’ll be sat there 30 years from now beating yourself up at the chances you didn’t take, the challenges you shyed away from and the opportunities you let pass you by. The student job fair was last week, and if you were one of the 600+ attendees, then you know how chaotic it can feel. OIT is proud to have over 100 student employees at any time, in a variety of positions that are well sought after on campus. The event has left me thinking about a few things I feel students need to hear. 1) Not getting a call back does not mean you are not skilled or capable. Jobs a fiercely competitive. Don't give up. 2) You don't have to walk in feeling the need to fight to sell yourself on projects or years of experience. These are student jobs, we expect you to be students. 3) Sharing your specializations means there's little time to share your soft skills. Instead of saying what you did on a project, volunteer program, or job, share what you learned and how it shaped you. 4) Have a general knowledge of the area in which you applying. It shows great initiative and allows you to determine if it's even worth pursuing. 5) No one told me to wear a blue shirt. Sometimes it's not how you blend in, but how you stand out. 🤔 Quick tip for job/internship seekers out there: If you're at NeurIPS or another conference, a job fair, or really any event where companies have a presence, please show some interest in the company before asking about job and internship opportunities. I promise it will go over better. And knowing about the company in advance is just an added bonus. My Experience at the UTD Job Fair Last weekend, I attended a Job Fair at UTD, which was revealing and opened my eyes regarding potential career paths. The participant list included recognizable names like Charles Schwab, JPMorgan, AT&T, and Apple, providing insight into potential employers that could have been met in future career moves. The event, however, had both good and bad but, without doubt, offered a practical view of the competitive workplace. The job fair was an open field of potential opportunities in which numerous industries were exhibited. This was a chance to learn what they look for in possible employees. The competition in the labor markets was manifested with it underscoring the necessity of leaving a mark. One good feature of the function was interaction with the company officials. They opened up insights for creating effective resumes and handling the anticipated demands during an interview. The process seemed like an instant job-hunting class. Although I did not get an immediate offer for a position or amazingly connect with employers, it was a significant milestone in grasping what possible future employers should meet my career expectations. This experience taught me that the course for an enriching career is sometimes narrow but full of trials. Thanks to UTD for providing such a platform for interaction between students and companies. The reps’ patience in providing information about the company is commendable. The UTD Job Fair did not happen overnight, but it served as a dose of reality we sometimes need. Therefore, it underlined that life-long career fulfillment is a journey with unique obstacles and chances that will determine its future course.

My UTD Job Fair Experience Last week, I had the opportunity to attend the UTD Job Fair, and it was a valuable experience that shed light on the world of career opportunities. Among the participating companies, familiar names like Abbott, Allstate, AT&T, CarMax, DriveTime, and more, stood out as potential employers. While the event had its ups and downs, it provided an authentic glimpse into the competitive job market. Navigating Opportunities: The job fair was a chance to explore various industries and learn about what companies are seeking in potential candidates. It was evident that competition is fierce, and standing out isn't always straightforward. Insights from the Field: I had the chance to engage in conversations with company representatives, and their insights were eye-opening. From resume tips to interview expectations, these tidbits of knowledge were truly valuable. Discovery & Realities: While the event didn't lead to immediate job offers or groundbreaking connections, it was a step towards a clearer understanding of what I'm seeking in a career and what companies are looking for in candidates. Acknowledgments: My gratitude goes to UTD for hosting the event and providing the opportunity to engage with these companies. I also appreciate the time the company representatives dedicated to sharing their wisdom. The Road Ahead: The job fair wasn't a fairy tale, but it was a real-world glimpse into the complexities of the job market.
