Approximately 130 people are trafficked worldwide every hour and most of these are children. Over one million children are trafficked for the sex trade every year. Approximately 30 million children have lost their childhood to human trafficking in the past 30 years. Some children forced into human trafficking are as young as 4 years old. 4 million children who are under the age of 18 are living in forced marriages. This is slavery. Most of the children are sold off by their own families for labour and are eventually traded for sex trafficking1 in 3 children who run away from home are approached by a trafficker within 48 hours of their running away. 76% of transactions for human trafficking with underage girls, start on the internet. The world is not a safe place! Pay attention to your children, where they go, who they are with. Protect them with love. Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment... What’s the difference? Sexual violence is an umbrella term that includes a wide range of sexual acts. The term can include rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment, unwanted touching, sexual coercion, sex trafficking, female genital cutting, child sexual abuse, child marriage, enforced sterilisation, sexual slavery, enforced prostitution and forced pregnancy. Sexual violence can also be perpetrated online or via digital technologies. Technology-facilitated sexual violence includes online stalking, gender-based hate speech, image-based sexual abuse, online rape threats and online sexual harassment. Sexual violence disproportionately affects women and girls and is mostly perpetrated by men and boys. But it can affect anyone regardless of their gender, race, nationality, age, sexuality, disability or socioeconomic status. Every year, AWARE India engages everyone in Sexual Assault Awareness & Prevention Month, also known as SAAPM. This is an opportunity for our community to raise awareness around sexual harassment, assault, abuse and sexual violence. This year, we will continue to raise awareness virtually and invite each of you to join us. In 2023, 29000 children were sexually abused in Türkiye. For 34 percent of the files, It was decided that there was no need for prosecution (impunity).
