Presbyterian Healthcare Services’ Post

On June 14, Dr. Trista Hughes, a doctor of family medicine and obstetrics at Socorro General Hospital (SGH), received an inaugural Healthcare Champion Award from the New Mexico Early Childhood Care and Education Department. Dr. Hughes was one of four healthcare providers recognized for going above and beyond to connect patients with the department's Home Visiting and Family Infant Toddler (FIT) programs. She says, “Home visiting programs have the unique ability to support patients in an individualized way. These programs contribute to reduced levels of postpartum depression and anxiety, child abuse and domestic violence, and increased parental engagement and childhood literacy." Dr. Hughes is also a tireless advocate for rural health and support of families who are dealing with substance use disorder. She grew up in a rural community, where she witnessed the impact of rural healthcare firsthand. She says, “I've known that I wanted to practice rural medicine as long as I've known that I wanted to be a physician. It is so meaningful and rewarding to care for patients in this setting." Congratulations to Dr. Hughes, and a big thank you for your dedication to our community.
