Residents of Woodside Place in Oakmont, our dementia community, have fun playing our own version of the game "hungry hungry hippos!" Residents used cups and tried to catch the balls. Games like this help improve motor skills, coordination and provide socialization!

If children feel safe, They can - - Take risks - Ask questions - Make mistakes - Learn to trust - Share their feelings - Grow All without feeling like they aren't good enough, smart enough, brave enough. And really, nothing's changed in adulthood. Safe doesn't mean hiding away or being comfortable. Safe means trust. Trust allows for vulnerability. Vulnerability fosters connection + belonging. Belonging makes way to confidence + growth. As adults, if we don't feel like we're in a good place, a safe place... It's our responsibility to change it. (Responsable → Able to respond) And just like kids, if we don't have the support and attention around us, We create adverse conditions and face self-sabotage on a daily basis. As founders and entrepreneurs, this can creep in ever-so-gently. Once I learned that surrounding yourself with others who make you better and celebrate with you was the way, I immediately began putting together my 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀. - Therapist - Biz Coach - Functional medicine doc - Core group of mentors - Incredible friends Everyone of these people don't hesitate to shoot it to me straight because they've been there. Adding this in, while building and growing community, has been life-changing. In summary - As an adult, it's your responsibility to take action to find your safe space. Find, build, and grow your community. It can be tough out there. But we don't have to go at it alone.

Topic: Foster Youth and Community Connection 🎡 💡 Connectedness has a high correlation with overall health and a long-term life. How are young adults who have been in foster care experiencing their communities? 💭 What supports should be intentionally developed to support cultural and racial groups that report higher levels for impact of accessing their communities? 💢 Youth defined community as those they felt connected to, not necessarily the physical community they live in. 👑 Increasing protective factors that support youth in their self-identified needs can create change at the community level- holistic support and whole person empowerment can elevate the experiences for youth.

A few weeks ago, a good friend, Melissa Bloom (author of the The Path to Joy and founder of The Joy School), invited me to a reflection and intention setting session for 2024. I loved the idea of doing it together -- a way to build in an accountability partner and to have a feeling of community. Here are the questions I used to guide me: 💪 What do I want to accomplish 🤗 How do I want to feel ✨ What am I extraordinary at and brings me energy ⏳ What do I want to make time for What questions do you use to guide your reflection or intention setting?

The Impact of Small Acts: Community Care in Everyday Life Observations from our immediate surroundings often teach us profound lessons. Recently, I noticed a water jug labeled "RO water" placed thoughtfully in a public space. This simple act reminded me of a time when businesses commonly placed earthen pots, or matkas, outside their establishments to provide water for laborers and passersby in the scorching heat. These small gestures, though seemingly minor, carry significant weight. They demonstrate that we don't need grand actions to make a difference. Collective small steps can bring about meaningful change. In the past, matkas symbolized community care, ensuring no one went thirsty. Today, similar acts, like placing a water jug, continue this tradition of empathy and support. The power of these actions lies in their ability to inspire others, creating a ripple effect that leads to broader positive outcomes. By embracing small, thoughtful gestures, we can collectively build a more compassionate and connected community. In essence, we need not wait for grand opportunities. Instead, let's start with small, everyday actions that, together, create lasting change.

🌟 I’ve been learning more about the transition challenges faced by young adults aging out of the foster care system, especially after my own experience with fostering to adopt a child at risk of aging out. One promising solution I heard about is intergenerational housing. This approach offers stable housing and a supportive community that can greatly ease the transition to independence. Older adults in these settings can provide mentorship, life skills training, and emotional support—essential tools for young adults facing the uncertainty of adulthood. Moreover, intergenerational housing fosters a sense of belonging and reduces isolation, while also offering valuable networking opportunities and access to crucial resources. As innovative ways to support those aging out of foster care are explored, intergenerational housing holds great potential to make a meaningful impact. I remain curious to see how things unfold. https://lnkd.in/eX4Z3tQP 🏡🤝 #FosterCare #IntergenerationalHousing #SocialImpact
