Does anyone know anyone smart looking for a job right now? We're looking for three positions, all local Bay Area (specifically Oakland near the Colleseum) 1. Sales support: you'd go on-site with Dominic (super nice guy) performing lighting audits, which means interacting with the customer to get access to whatever areas are needed and then taking a lot of pictures and notes 2. Warehouse... Guy or girl (we don't have a title for this) but someone who lives in the warehouse and follows protocol for shipping and receiving lights. Lights need to go out to jobs, and lights come back from jobs, and the right ones need to go, and we have to keep track of inventory. This job is pretty physical (the few days a month I get of this sort of thing go a long way towards keeping me in shape) 3. Project management. Someone to work under our project manager to help coordinate the customer, the utility, our warehouse, our company, and the contractor - lots of moving parts they need to be organized and good with time management/dealing with people Willing to forgo experience in all three in exchange for being smart/practical/organized. (PS We're also hiring sales, but the above three are immediate NEEDS)

At Kokotree, we're in the process of seeking a senior engineering manager dedicated to enhancing the speed and efficiency of our content and platform. During the interview process, we encountered a candidate previously employed as a VP of Technology. This interaction brought to light a prevalent issue among less effective individuals in the field. The candidate's primary solution to performance challenges was to significantly increase spending on server resources. Rather than proposing strategies for cost optimization, their approach leaned heavily towards escalating expenditures on infrastructure and expanding the team. This perspective, which sidesteps accountability and leans towards using company funds without a focus on efficiency, emerged as a considerable concern. It's intriguing and somewhat disconcerting to observe how frequently this approach is recommended by those lacking the drive to seek more innovative and sustainable solutions.

Smaller companies is where it's at in my opinion. It's why we work with them. And my preference when looking at which companies to target. But we don't just go in cold - we would have spoken to a number of current employees to see what its really like working there, and maybe some people who have left, to find out why. I've worked in large and smaller companies. Both have their positives, but the main reason why I steer towards smaller companies - you're not just a number being one of them... - You can be involved in various areas - You have a better understanding of the wider business, outside of your responsibilities. - You'll pick up other skills you wouldn't working in a large corporate where you are pigeon-holed a lot of the time. - You have a voice. Now I know not EVERY small business is like this, but the ones we work with - oh yes they are. - Decisions are made quickly, and you don't have to wait months or sign off from 10 people before you can go ahead and do something. It's usually a conversation, and then a yes or a no.
