I wrote a short post on remedying anti-competitive algorithms. The post offers a simple example of a platform that complies with anti-discrimination requirements, yet its algorithm continues to exhibit the same discriminating outcome. The post also makes a more general point, that information asymmetry is one of the main obstacles to designing effective remedies for anti-competitive outcomes emerging from autonomous systems, therefore there should be an increased requirement on the operator of the system to demonstrate not just that its design was changed in accordance with the wording of the remedy/commitment, but also that the system continues to exhibit the desired outcome. https://lnkd.in/dcdahx-J

In the 2020s, legal tech solutions enabled by the generation and reasoning abilities of AI can capture similar global value from attorneys & courts and provide access to certainty & justice to consumers

FTC's action on Vroom summarises what we, at Sei AI, are working on: 1. It's all about disclosures, disclosures, disclosures - something so easy and important can sometimes be sped right past 2. Consumer complaints and compliance are essentially the same. Fintechs need strong QA on customer support chats/calls/emails, complaints classified and tied back to product policies, T&Cs, and advertising. This way you can easily track each complaint back to the root cause and prevent further escalation 3. In performing due diligence for a potential new online service provider, I discovered a possible gap in their terms and conditions regarding customer notification of information requests by authorities. According to NYSBA Opinion 842, ensuring #confidentiality and #security is key, and this "may" include the provider's obligation to inform the lawyer of any demands for client data. After discussing this with the company, the CEO stated that due to the price point, they couldn't amend the terms specifically for my firm. While impressed by their professionalism in addressing my concerns, the decision now lies in determining if "reasonable care" necessitates such a provision, given the limited data I would be storing with the provider. A few weeks back, the FCC took a stand that's resonating across banking, telecom, and retail: AI-generated voice robocalls are officially a no-go. It's a pivotal moment for us in industries heavily reliant on customer communication. While the dust has settled since the announcement, the implications for how we leverage AI in customer care are just starting to unfold. Under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, these robocalls have been classified alongside traditional spam calls - with penalties that can reach up to $23,000 per violation.
