I am ecstatic to introduce our newest resource - The Care & Collaboration Toolkit built with The Appeal to share their practices that care for, and center, journalists in news organizations. Templates and guidance to: - Implement thriving (not just living!) wages - Incorporate democratic decision making into your newsroom - Build a board that actually works for your org - Minimizing burnout And more! I love how the Appeal not only works to do impactful, important journalism - but that they built a newsroom that does its best to include, care for and center their staff in every decision and process. I hope that this resource helps newsrooms implement changes that truly support and include their journalists across the industry. https://lnkd.in/g-zJ-Pu4

Are you using a newswire to reach out to journalists? It’s time to rethink that strategy. When 3000 journalists were asked which sources they found most useful for generating ideas, the top response was a press release. The last place response was a press release from a newswire. Curating your own media lists can be a pain because of the constant need for upkeep but it offers better control, personalization, and it’s far more effective. I’ve tried the most expensive and the cheapest newswire services available. There’s a reason I chose to maintain dozens of subject and location-specific media lists.

Journalists receive an overwhelming number of press releases daily, with estimates varying based on the publication type and individual newsbeat. On average, journalists at large media outlets report receiving anywhere from 50 to 500 press releases per day, especially if they cover popular industries like tech, finance, or entertainment. This high volume leads to intense competition among PR professionals for media attention, and many releases go unopened or are quickly skimmed. Capturing the attention of journalists and editors in just 7 seconds is crucial for getting them to pick up your press release. Discover actionable tips on crafting headlines and key pitches that stand out. #PressRelease #PRInsights #Newswire

If we are to adapt and survive in a digital age, there are two non-negotiable tasks for our newsrooms to fulfil: - We must become experts in identifying needs in our community that are not being met. - We must consistently produce the most reliable possible journalism about those needs. At Documented we see that content and the services we provide are always consumed more if we "become useful". And we do so, by before identifying the needs of the communities we want to serve. How can newsrooms become a solution to an existing need? I love the ideas in this article: https://lnkd.in/db7beJQK
