On April 18th, we hosted an event titled ‘Tomorrow’s Drugs: How AI is Accelerating Drug Development’. We at Amplitude Ventures strongly believe that AI will become a critical tool for the next generation of drug developers, and we were excited to have some of the leading companies, thought leaders and our portfolio companies attend. The day was filled with a number of stimulating discussions - starting with a fantastic keynote by Brian Martin, Head of AI at AbbVie who walked us through how big pharma is utilizing AI to change both drug development and internal processes. We then had three world leading academics walk us through how AI is providing novel breakthroughs in clinical trial design (Benjamin Haibe-Kains & Bo Wang) and de novo biologics generation (Philip Kim). This was followed by an Amplitude Ventures portfolio company panel, where we highlighted three companies that we, at Amplitude, played key roles in creating and building, that leverage AI for antibody discovery (Matthew Clark at Ability Biologics), small molecule therapy modelling (Maximilian Ebert at Congruence Therapeutics) and modelling drug-immune system dynamics (David de Graaf at Reverb Therapeutics). Finally, we had quick pitches from three companies (Lucas Siow at ProteinQure, Dr. Christine Allen at Intrepid Labs and Navdeep Tangri at Klinrisk) that we think represent the future of AI in drug discovery in Ontario.
