I'm feeling more knowledgeable than I did this morning, after having attended "Stopping Elder Abuse – Part One," a free webinar offered by AgeWise Colorado It will be posted online on their website in the coming weeks, and I highly recommend it! It is a promise that All of Georgia’s children have a right to be safe and an opportunity to thrive, learn, and grow in an environment that fosters healthy development and It is a promise that child abuse and neglect can be prevented by supporting and strengthening Georgia’s families, thus preventing the far-reaching effects of abuse and neglect, and providing the opportunity for children to develop healthy, trusting family bonds, and consequently, building the foundations of communities; and It is a promise that Positive childhood experiences (PCES) — like having loving caregivers and safe, stable, and nurturing relationships — can help mitigate trauma and the negative impact of adverse childhood experiences (ACES) to promote the social, emotional, and developmental well-being of children; and It is a promise that effective child abuse prevention strategies succeed because of partnerships created within communities among citizens, human service agencies, schools, faith communities, health care providers, civic organizations, law enforcement agencies, and the business sector, inspiring action from expected and unexpected partners in prevention; and It is a promise that we will strive to provide safe, stable, and nurturing environments for our children, free of violence, abuse, and neglect. This will ensure that Georgia’s children grow to their full potential as the next generation of leaders, helping to secure the future of this state and nation. BRAVO DORIS DUKE FOUNDATION! ❤️ The Doris Duke Foundation recently launched Opportunities for Prevention & Transformation (OPT-in for Families) - a new initiative that aims to transform our nation’s response to children at risk of abuse & neglect by helping counties & states build a prevention oriented child well-being system that supports children & families in their communities. This three year, $33 million initiative, seeks to demonstrate that actively connecting families at the earliest signal of need, to direct support for basic needs & coordinated support services using trusted community partners is a cost effective, scalable way to prevent abuse & neglect & keep families together. The initiative is specifically focused on reaching families who currently fall between the cracks - those who get referred to Child Protective Services for well-being needs rather than safety concerns that do not warrant investigation of neglect or abuse - & who therefore often get no help at all. OPT-in For Families will pilot in four sites - DC, Kentucky, Oregon and South Carolina - selected for their commitment to and progress in developing new ways of supporting families. https://lnkd.in/g_eutnmv #reenvisioningfostercare
