Today, we come together to address a critical issue facing our nation—the fentanyl epidemic. Fentanyl is now the leading cause of death for Americans aged 18-45, surpassing motor vehicle accidents and gun violence. This year’s theme is "Educate, Act, Prevent," and it serves as a powerful call to action: - Educate ourselves and others about the lethal dangers of fentanyl. - Act by supporting prevention initiatives and advocating for more robust policies. - Prevent future tragedies by raising awareness and staying vigilant. We extend our deepest gratitude to the dedicated professionals on the front lines, who are fighting tirelessly to save lives and combat this crisis. Join us in this vital mission. Share this message, participate in local events, and use the hashtag #FacingFentanyl to help spread awareness. Together, we can honor those we've lost and protect those still at risk. #NationalFentanylAwarenessDay #EducateActPrevent #FacingFentanyl #EndTheEpidemic #CommunityAction

As a licensed social worker within the child welfare system, I have seen and continue to see the impact that substances like fentanyl has on kids, adults, and families as a whole. In my first year of being a DSS employee, I’ve seen newborn infants born addicted to substances and battling withdrawal when they enter the world, teenagers who struggle with substance use themselves, kids who are constantly conflicted to why their loved ones are sleeping while standing when they take their “medicine,” and much more. Addiction is a complicated topic for everyone, whether you’ve had a loved one experience addiction to substances or whether you’ve experienced addiction to substances yourself. Fentanyl is one part of a larger conversation that is incredibly important in discussing addiction and overdoses. Please stay aware about the impacts substances like fentanyl have on people on a micro to a macro scale. There are many more ways that one person is impacted by addiction, let alone a whole society. Please continue to educate yourself on the intricacies addiction has on the world, and please do not judge or shame people for struggling with addiction of any kind.

Let's talk about water safety like we talk about firearm safety. We wouldn't leave a loaded gun around kids, so why take chances with pools or open water? It's time to educate ourselves and prioritize safety, especially for our little ones. Check out this video from the National Alliance of Drowning Prevention to learn more. #WaterSafety #DrowningPrevention #SafetyFirst
“I didn’t know” is a phrase we hear all too often in drowning prevention. Many people are completely unaware that drowning is the single leading cause of death among children ages 1-4. Drowning remains a leading cause of accidental death for older children. In this powerful video, hear firsthand from families who lost their children to drowning. Their stories are a stark reminder of the silent danger that water can pose and highlight the essential need for proactive drowning prevention measures. By raising awareness and educating others, we can work together to change these statistics and ensure the safety of our families. Watch, learn, and help us spread this life-saving message far and wide. #WaterSafetySeason2024 #DrownAlliance #DrowningPrevention
