Keep your intuition sharp, and don’t ignore that gut feeling if something feels off. Dangerous situations can happen in any environment. 3. **Don’t Rely on Others for Your Safety**: While it’s comforting to believe someone will help in an emergency, the truth is you need to be your own protector. Trust yourself first and foremost. Learn techniques to defend yourself and practice how you’d react in different scenarios. You have the power to control your safety. 4. **Don’t Be Afraid to Take Action**: If you feel uncomfortable or sense danger, don’t hesitate. In pursuit of the principles of inclusivity and equal opportunities in vocational education, training, and skilling (VETS), NCVET notified the guidelines for "Provisions of Comprehensive Accessibility Standards for Training of Persons with Disability" on the 3rd April 2024. These guidelines are pivotal in catering to the distinctive needs, abilities, and challenges encountered by Persons with Disabilities (PwD), creating awareness, emphasizing the use of assistive devices and inclusive infrastructure requirements, reasonable accommodations required to promote PwDs and outline roles of various stakeholders in VETS for ensuring a structured and accessible approach to education and training for PWDs thereby facilitating their access to quality education and the development of essential skills crucial for both employment and active societal engagement. These guidelines, therefore, mark a decisive step towards promoting accessibility and equity in education, empowering every individual to pursue their educational and professional goals with dignity and support. There is a video making rounds on sm about unemployed graduates & I realised that disabled people are always talking about being unable to find work because of ableism but everybody is convinced we are being dishonest and lazy. when #covid was first announced, I had a job & I thought since I was able to work from home for a few months, I'd be able to keep my job because I wasn't asking for anything I wasn't doing already, I was wrong When we went to the #CCMA & I asked my then employers where they thought I, as a Disabled person was going to be able to find another job at the beginning of a recession, with a pandemic lockdown, after struggling to find the ONE job after 4yrs, I was treated with so much disregard, I'm still in disbelief. it's almost 4yrs of waiting to hear if I was discriminated against or not and I've been applying for all the jobs I know I qualify for & I have a collection of rejection letters from all of them. it's a current personal crisis that doesn't seem to have an end & I admit, Im terrified because what is going to happen to me, with no job, people are getting #allyshipfatigue & the generosity in spirit is matching the current energy of the world, very minimal. what do I keep telling myself to hold on & believe in having a decent life while disabled in a country that punishes those who are not able bodied & excludes those who look like me? how do I keep believing that I'm supposed to be protected by the law and humanity ? why is nobody making an intentional effort to hire us?

India's $3 trillion economy thrives on innovation and a diverse workforce! Yet, a significant part of the talent pool remains underutilized: Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). According to the Census 2011, there are an estimated 17 million disabled non-workers in India, with women making up a significant portion (54%). PwDs possess immense potential, but face barriers to entering and thriving in the workplace. Enhancing PwD employability is not just social responsibility, it's a smart business decision. This is a call for all of us: from employers creating accessible workplaces to government bodies developing inclusive policies, to individuals challenging unconscious biases. By working collaboratively, we can create a more inclusive future for #PwDs. This independence day as our Hon’ble Prime Minister shared his vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047, it's clear that achieving this ambitious goal will require all-round efforts from various sectors and stakeholders. However, couple of areas in my opinion will need special focus: Skill development and fostering higher women participation in our workforce. While India's demographic dividend presents a unique opportunity, it's crucial to equip our youth with industry-relevant skills to harness this potential. Skill development initiatives, such as Skill India Mission, National Education Policy, and PMKVY, must be prioritized to enhance employability, foster innovation, and drive economic growth. Simultaneously, addressing gender disparities and promoting higher women participation in the workforce is vital. With women's participation stagnating at around 25%, it's essential to: - Encourage women's entrepreneurship and employment - Provide safe and inclusive workplaces - Address societal biases and stereotypes - Promote STEM education for girls With special attention towards these two critical areas, we can make good progress towards driving inclusive growth, and achieve Viksit Bharat. The Government's policy push and initiatives are a step in the right direction, but we need to all stakeholders from public and private sector ecosystem to come together and do our bit towards this objective. Meet the aspirants of the "Empowering Abilities Through Skills Program," an initiative supported by State Street as they share their stories of optimism and resilience. This program has been a beacon of hope for over 225 PwDs associated with the program across Karnataka, West Bengal, and Odisha. Through the efforts of our implementation partner Anudip Foundation, these participants have not only acquired crucial skills but also built confidence, mastering digital and computer technologies that are essential in today’s world. We nasscom foundation are proud to have trained the beneficiaries, equipping them with the necessary employability skills that once seemed unattainable. We are not just witnessing their growth; but are seeing them reshape their futures.
