Because Parents Trust Schools So Easily! 🤔 Because schools are seen as safe spaces for learning and growth. But here’s something to think about: Many schools and organizations often share what they aspire to do rather than what they’re already doing. And that’s okay—as long as there’s progress behind the promise. Take Parakh's Holistic Progress Card as an example. Some schools might feel, "We’re already doing this in some form." But here’s the opportunity: Capture it. Analyse it. Showcase it. Celebrate it. Parents trust schools with their children’s growth. Imagine how much stronger that trust becomes when schools clearly share how they nurture every aspect of a child’s development. It’s not about adding more work. It’s about highlighting the great work already happening! Let’s inspire more transparency and trust in education. Lets bring about equivalence in our boards andf give all our children the advantage they want! 💬 How do you think schools can better showcase their holistic development efforts? #parakh #parakhpaneldiscussion #holisticprogresscard #anewkindofreport #weareaworkinprogress

Revisiting the importance of #institutions in achieving #sustainabledevelopment. An #inclusive and #empowering institution is the right response to address #inequality and act as a connector between the community and the governance system. Evidence shows that institution of plays vital role in human civilisation, and #answer to minimise the resource gaps and accelerate the process of #social change. In India, #traditional institutions, whether family-based, community-oriented, religious, academic, or governance structures, often demonstrate advanced inclusivity and robustness compared to #modern institutions based on external principles borrowed from elsewhere and not relevant in the local context. The effectiveness and efficiency of institutions are closely tied to the #ownership and stake that people have in them. Greater stake leads to a more profound #impact. It is necessary to assess the impact of various forms of institutions, particularly #traditional, vs #modern; and their effectiveness in the societal transformation process. For example, both #marriage and #family, as institutions at the lowest level, are at stake due to various factors. The ideas of #equity and #euality as articulated modern schooling system, and with increased disposable income, and the influence of individuals (role model) or institutions, negatively impact the existence of the core institutions, leading to increased trends of unnecessary or forced family separation. This trend has adversely affected the #rights of children to live in a family or family-like environment(except natural cause), as well as their right to live with dignity and have an identity. A similar challenge is observed in the schooling system, where formal #education is provided with a curriculum that is not owned by the community, out of context, and is largely based on the theory of change based on the advanced management control systems, undermining the concept of people’s participation and ownership in school management. Let’s not ignore the power of #knowledge transformation from one generation to next by #indigenous communities through oral form since ages. The growth story of #Self-governance institutions faces equal challenges in terms of people’s participation and ownership, with numerous guidelines and standard operating procedures dictating basic functioning. Another example is the #caste panchayat, which acts as a guardian of a particular caste group to preserve cultural identity. However, these institutions are often portrayed negatively in public domain, despite representing positive #social norms. It is important to note that the caste hierarchy exists in all faiths. In conclusion, it is vital to #reflect inward, take efforts to bridge #capacity gaps, and enhance institutions to increase the efficiency, rather than borrowing irrelevant ideas from elsewhere and creating parallel, ad-hoc institutions based on funding arrangement that undermine the power of the people.

Education is the foundation for a brighter tomorrow, but for many communities in India, access to quality education remains out of reach. On this National Education Day, we honor the organizations challenging this! Organizations such as SALEM PEOPLE TRUST, Samudaik Kalyan Evam Vikas Sansthan (SKVS), and Jan Vikas Sansthan are working tirelessly to break down the barriers that prevent children from marginalized communities—especially Dalit, Musahar, and families enduring discrimination from stepping into classrooms. These organizations aren’t just focusing on enrollment; they’re ensuring children stay in school, receive quality education, and have the opportunity to build a future they deserve. From providing educational support to training local leaders to access better opportunities, their work is reshaping the educational landscape for the most vulnerable. Education isn’t just about textbooks and lessons; it’s about dignity, opportunity, and the chance to dream big. Today, we celebrate their unwavering commitment to creating a world where every child has access to an inclusive and quality education, regardless of their background. As proximate leaders- they are inspiring change through their deep understanding and lived experiences, ensuring every child begins their journey with equity. #RebuildIndiaFund #ProximateLeaders #NationalEducationDay #InclusiveEducation #QualityEducation #BreakingBarriers

Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar… You must have heard this name echoed in Parliament, mainstream media, or even on YouTube. Every political party today talks about Baba Saheb and the Constitution. But let’s take a moment to reflect—what does it truly mean to believe in these values? If you consider yourself a believer in the Constitution, then you must also believe in equal participation—there’s no room for doubt here. And if you hold these three values close to your heart— Baba Saheb, the Constitution, and equal participation —then I believe you are an educated and responsible citizen of India. But here’s a question: 👉 Are you aware of equal participation in the government education system? If not, it’s time to learn about the School Management Committees (SMCs) —a truly participatory and democratic space that works to ensure every child’s right to quality education. And if you want to see such spaces grow stronger, I urge you to explore the work of Samarthya. Together, we can empower communities and make education a collective responsibility. Let’s embrace participation. Let’s strengthen democracy from the ground up. Happy participation! https://lnkd.in/gqdhmcXZ #EqualParticipation #EducationForAll #DemocracyInAction #QualityEducation #Ambedkar #Constitution #CommunityEmpowerment #ParticipatoryDemocracy #SchoolManagementCommittees #CSR #corporatesocialresponsibility #philanthropy #volunteer

🌟Why You Should Always Educate Yourself And Others🌟 In the journey of life, challenges often arise unexpectedly. But, it's our response to these challenges that truly defines us. In such times, education is that beacon of hope, which empowers individuals to transform adversity into opportunity, and darkness into light. Consider this: within every problem lies the room for growth. With this in mind, Schumacher Society does various projects like: - Helping underprivileged children: We run a charity school in the neighbourhoods of Mohammadpur, Delhi. - Overcoming economic barriers: We undertake livelihoods projects like Project Shakti. - Confronting societal issues: We undertake research to find solutions for social evils like gender violence, etc. In all our endeavours, constantly educating ourselves helps us equip ourselves with the knowledge needed to forge a brighter path forward. At its core, education isn't just about accumulating facts and figures; it's about 1. Fostering critical thinking 2. Evoking empathy 3. Inspiring innovation It's about empowering individuals to effect positive change, both in their own lives and in the world around them. As we strive to improve people's lives and make a meaningful impact, let us embrace the transformative power of education. Let us seize every opportunity to learn, to adapt, and to create a better future for ourselves and for generations to come. Over the past few weeks, I've been drawn into or surrounded by numerous conversations around violence—instances like corporal punishment in schools, and the horrific events in West Bengal and Thane. Yesterday at Charcha 2024 (by the The/Nudge Institute), I attended a panel discussion hosted by Sanjoy Roy with Nandita Das, Rajshri Deshpande, Amish Tripathi, and Zainab Patel. The discussion brought up violence, the means versus ends dilemma, and whether violence is portrayed to provoke thought or merely to titillate. This took me back to our last Acumen Fellowship immersive, where we reflected on the writings of Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela, exploring the causes, effects, and circumstances that lead to violence—and when, if ever, it might be justified. As we unpacked these heavy topics, I couldn’t help but wonder: How is our education system addressing violence? Are microaggressions within schools and classrooms recognized as acts of violence? Do we acknowledge teachers' or parents' anger as a form of violence? More importantly, do we guide our students to reflect on the nature, causes, and implications of the violence they experience or even participate in? There’s a glaring absence of such critical conversations in our schools. Students often leave without any understanding of violence and its far-reaching consequences. What does that lead to? And what might we need to change? #ViolenceInEducation #StudentAgency #Charcha2024 #AcumenFellowship #EducationReform #SocioEmotionalLearning Samyak Jain Ashwini Ramakrishnan Malavika Acharya Asha Shanabhaga Sandip Kumar S Mamta Bisht
