A growing number of clients across all Phaidon brands have been requesting more information on DE&I, and how to attract and retain diverse talent. We surveyed nearly 3,000 industry professionals across our six brands to see how they felt about company culture, instances of discrimination, progression opportunities, and DE&I training and resources at their current workplace. In conjunction, we also asked over 500 organizations the same questions from an employer perspective to uncover disparities, trends, and areas for improvement or further focus. On this International Women’s Day let’s commit to asking: who were the systems we find ourselves in designed for? What are the characteristics of the humans the system expects? What and how are these characteristics used as the constraints to accessing the system? And most importantly, how do those characteristics advance certain people’s success, while limiting others? Systems don’t fall out the sky! We, as human beings design them. So let’s work together to design more equitable, generous and inclusive systems that reflect the diversity of our communities.

Exciting Clean Energy Updates from New York and Beyond! I’m thrilled to share some significant developments in the clean energy sector that are shaping a sustainable future. Here’s what’s happening: New York’s Major Investment in Clean Energy Workforce Development Governor Kathy Hochul announced $11.6 million in funding to support clean energy workforce development, focusing on disadvantaged communities. Highlights include: - New Workforce Training Programs: Four programs providing upskilling in renewable energy, EV charging, building electrification, and energy-intensive industries. - Support for Transitioning Workers: $5 million for pre-apprenticeships and wrap-around services like childcare, transportation, and housing stability. - Youth Apprenticeships: Collaboration with Say Yes Buffalo for structured apprenticeships, combining paid on-the-job learning and mentorship for high school graduates. This investment is about creating equitable opportunities for all New Yorkers to participate in the clean energy economy. Globally, 2023 was landmarked the year for clean energy deployment: - Solar PV and Wind Growth: Annual additions soared by 85% and 60%, reaching 540 GW, led by China. - Electric Vehicle Boom: Sales grew by 35%, hitting 14 million vehicles globally. China and the EU lead, with one-in-three and one-in-four new cars being electric. - Hydrogen Electrolyser Capacity: Grew by 360%, thanks to China’s efforts. However, clean energy expansion remains concentrated in advanced economies and China, highlighting the need for more inclusive global efforts. The Bigger Picture - Impact and Opportunities: From 2019 to 2023, clean energy growth outpaced fossil fuels by two-to-one, significantly reducing global fossil fuel demand. Technologies like solar PV, wind power, nuclear power, electric cars, and heat pumps have collectively avoided annual fossil fuel demand equivalent to 5% of global demand in 2023. This progress underscores the transformative power of clean energy and its critical role in mitigating climate change and fostering economic growth. Join the Movement!
