So very cool getting to present "Queer(ing) Ecologies..." at The Royal Institution on Friday as part of "The Big Science Pride Party" organised by Pride In Stem! We talked about the reality of perspective, the origins of bias, the essential core of decolonising biology and breaking down ecology, centring global majority and queer global majority folk in the structures we use to break this down, why penguins aren't gay (but also are)...and of course, cave bug genitalia! This is not something I'd ever thought I'd be able to do, and whilst I am generally very much against institutional constructs, the opportunity was one where it really intertwined queer global majority people and a chance to break the cycle and provide a regenerative alternative future to a broken system. What I am working towards - essentially - is the undermining of an assumed reality. By doing that, I am needing to get to grips with the terrible imposed realities of the society I exist within, in order for the liberation of mindsets to occur, in order that we can progress to systems that better hold explosive and unhindered thrival. I'm so happy that I get to share more about the work I'm doing, the boundaries that are being pushed, the liberation that is occurring, and I'm excited to share more as I do more and deconstruct even further the wierd and wonderful systems of biology 🪲🐝🦋 #Queer #Ecology #Nature #Wildlife #Liberation #Futures #Bugs #Trans #Scicomm

Just hearing you for a few minutes at the Symbiocene Summit moved my mindset on. So I'm sure this event was even more inspirational. I didn't even know scientists were working on this project until you appeared at the summit. It's somewhat liberational just to read the words 'the terrible imposed realities of the society I exist within...' May the work you are involved in go from strength to strength, and build like irresistible natural phenomena...
