Aviation English - the language of the skies, born from the tragedy of Tenerife. 🛫 ✈️ March 27, 1977, marked one of the darkest days in aviation history. At Los Rodeos Airport in Tenerife, two colossal Boeing 747s, operated by Pan Am and KLM, became entwined in a fatal collision, claiming the lives of 583 people. The chaos unfolded amidst dense fog and congested runways. As Pan Am Flight 1736 taxied down the runway, it collided with the KLM aircraft, Flight 4805, which was attempting to take off. Miscommunication between the pilots and air traffic controllers exacerbated the situation. The KLM captain, believing he had received clearance for takeoff, initiated the manoeuvre while the Pan Am aircraft was still on the runway. Tragically, the collision left no survivors on the KLM flight, and only 61 of the 396 passengers and crew aboard the Pan Am aircraft survived. It remains the deadliest accident in aviation history. The Tenerife disaster served as a wake-up call for the aviation industry. Investigators identified language barriers, ambiguous instructions, and radio interference as contributing factors. In response, Aviation English was developed as a standardized language for air communication, ensuring clarity and precision in the cockpit. Examples of Aviation English terms include: 🆔️Squawk: A transponder code assigned to an aircraft for identification. 📻Pan-Pan: A radio call indicating an urgent situation that is not immediately life-threatening. 🧳Deadhead: A crew member or passenger travelling on a flight for positioning purposes rather than as part of the regular crew or passengers. 🆘️Mayday: A distress call indicating an emergency requiring immediate assistance. Today, the legacy of Tenerife echoes in every cockpit, reminding pilots and air traffic controllers of the critical importance of effective communication. Share this post to honour the memory of those lost and advocate for safer skies worldwide. 🌐✈️ #aviationenglish #flightsafety #languageoftheskies #tenerife #disaster #sharewithafriend #safetyfirst #esol #esl #english #learningenglish

Two part answer…Part 1 It was with interest and melancholy that I read the excellent overview from Brenton Cox of Adelaide Airport the foresight and undertakings they are doing for Adelaide and S.A. More Information is required to achieve success South Australians deserves. Firstly the Govt need to reconsider their support to ensure future growth of our state. The State Govt 24 million investment is negligible when 240 million was provided Queensland Govt as equity to increase international new carriers operating and or additional flights by those flying into Brisbane. The ‘worst kept secret’ is that Adelaide is classified as a secondary tiered airport and virtually anyone..that’s any carrier…can fly into Adelaide tomorrow if they choose too,the catch with a population of just over 2 million (1.771 million in Census 2020 ) albeit AAC is expanding, the Government too must be prepared to Build Better South Australia and must up the ante and provide dollar incentives for Any overseas carrier to call Adelaide home ( or at least a Transit port )
Securing Adelaide’s aviation network vision is a team sport. We’re excited to contribute to The Advertiser’s ‘Bigger Better South Australia’ thought pieces. In an opinion article in today’s Advertiser, our Managing Director, Brenton Cox, talks about what aviation connectivity can do for our city’s economic and social fabric and the importance in being proactive and bold to reach our potential.

In the dynamic world of the aviation industry, stories like that of my good friend, Malik Sinegal, offer a fresh perspective on the journey to becoming a pilot. Malik’s remarkable path as one of the youngest African-American pilots at Delta is captured in the inspiring biography, "Soaring Through the Skies with Captain Malik Sinegal," masterfully written by Mary Suber. This narrative is not just about flying; it’s a reflection on how the aviation field is evolving. While we honor the seasoned aviators who paved the way with their undeniable dedication and sacrifices, it’s crucial to recognize that the skies are ever-changing. Today’s challenges, opportunities, and barriers are different, and Malik’s story is a testament to the resilience and determination required in this new era. The notion that one’s journey must mirror those of the past to be deemed worthy is a mindset we must challenge. Malik’s achievements, achieved through his unique set of struggles and timing, are not diminished by the differences in his path; rather, they highlight the diversity of experiences that enrich our industry today. His story is an invitation to all, especially to young individuals from underrepresented communities, to dream big and pursue those dreams with vigor. It underscores the importance of timing, opportunity, and the unique obstacles our generation faces, reminding us that the value of a pilot is not solely measured by the adversities they’ve overcome but also by their contributions to the future of aviation. As we celebrate Malik and his pioneering journey, let’s also engage in a broader dialogue about inclusivity and representation in aviation. Let's support one another in adapting to and overcoming the unique challenges of our times. We must inspire, uplift, and pave the way for the next generation of aviators. Together, we can foster an environment that values the diverse paths to success and acknowledges the evolving nature of our challenges. Let’s soar to new heights, embracing every story that contributes to the rich mosaic of the aviation world. #MalikSinegal #ProudFriend #InspiringOthers #DEI #Inclusivity #Representation #TheNextGenerationOfAviation Get your copy: Soaring Through the Skies with Captain Malik Sinegal https://a.co/d/fXTQ8ph

Aerotech International Ltd. and Celairion announce positive collaboration. When your asset is worth millions and time is of the essence, true collaboration of all key parties is vital to a successful aircraft delivery. With efficiency and collaboration in mind, Aerotech Directors Neil Ferns and Lisa Crellin, recently travelled to Austria to meet with the Celairion CAMO team to fine-tune and hone a highly collaborative approach to future aviation transitions. This visit was the result of many years of working projects side-by-side and understanding each other's businesses. During the visit we took time to identify areas for improvement in our combined processes and procedures. Our time at Celairion’s Austrian office was spent not just modernising procedures, but also learning about each other's approaches. Recognising the critical importance of fluidity between the on-site team and CAMO. We are proud to announce that following our visit we have created a collaborative environment to ensure constant team connection and cooperation during our projects. By promoting open communication and encouraging knowledge sharing, we aim to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in our operations. Working together, we can leverage the expertise and resources of both teams, resulting in more comprehensive and effective solutions for our clients.
