Spent time going through #AIRBUS production in Hamburg, the world's 3rd largest airplane production plant. Impressed by the cleanliness, organization, and processes despite the massive scale and industrial requirements. What stands out is how, by working across European borders, a company can achieve and maintain global leadership. The complexity is evident with components from France, Spain, Germany, and the UK coming together to create an industry leading product that lasts over 30 years. Think how inspiring it would be if European companies in other sectors could collaborate to create global leaders to compete with tech giants like Google, Meta, or Apple. Despite the challenges, #AIRBUS serves as a true role model in Europe. #AIRBUS #EuropeanLeadership #GlobalCompetitiveness

The paragraphs below are taken from a recent SAE Global Leadership Conference where the state of the Auto Industry was discussed. It mentions many subjects but the two paragraphs are of particular importance. They highlight the importance of Systems Engineering. Defining requirements at the vehicle level is all about required outcomes and not solutions. Many Automotive companies fail to distinguish the difference which leads to massive requirements documents. Furthermore Systems Engineering supports conceiving a "total system approach". Unfortunately Systems Engineering in its true form is poorly supported in many companies. One has only to look at University courses for Systems Engineers and realise that "Ah Houston, we've had a problem...". https://lnkd.in/ekBs8uTh #systemsengineering #autoindustry #vehiclesystems #technology

Did you hear the news about Boeing? https://lnkd.in/gGJH_ysa I'm thrilled to share that Boeing’s newly appointed CEO, Kelly Ortberg, has made a strategic decision to lead the company from Seattle, bringing leadership back to its roots. This move signifies a strong commitment to reconnecting with Boeing’s industrial heritage and addressing key challenges head-on, particularly in the areas of safety and quality. By positioning himself closer to the factory floor, Ortberg aims to foster a culture of accountability and innovation that will strengthen not only Boeing but the entire aerospace industry. This decision is a powerful reminder that even organizations need to make strategic moves for the HEALTH of their business. By realigning leadership with the core of Boeing’s operations, the company is better positioned to overcome challenges and thrive in a competitive industry. So the lesson is this - if organization's are getting healthy, why shouldn't we? This is a pivotal moment for us all, and I am excited to see how this leadership shift will help steer the company towards a brighter future and safety future for all. #Boeing #Aerospace #Leadership #Innovation #Seattle #StrategicLeadership

Engineers are the true builders for any company. Everyone else including leadership is just supporting them. History has shown time and again how important it is to listen to engineers. This was seen in case of Boeing going wrong with their 737 max airplanes because top management kept on making decisions through business lens. And also Volkswagen not able to crack Indian automotive industry as they didn't agree to optimize a highly coupled platform that increased their operational cost manifold. All of this keeps pointing us to have a balanced view of our systems and continually let the smartest people in the company do their job. Only if these decisions were not taken in complete isolation, these multi billion dollar companies would be making a killing. #justsaying #engineeringledgrowth #leadership
