++ Reason Foundation: “With adult and youth smoking reaching generational lows and still falling, there is little reason to use the blunt force of prohibition to reduce smoking rates.” #nomentholban #unintendedconsequences https://lnkd.in/e5wXhBSs ition/ ++ Public Health Post: “Though the FDA’s plan to address racial disparities by eliminating menthol tobacco products may be well-intentioned, as a top-down action, it risks creating unintended consequences that worsen the inequalities it hopes to address. Despite advancements in medicine and improved access to care, Black women continue to experience significantly higher rates of maternal mortality and morbidity. This is not a recent problem; systemic inequalities, historical injustices and persistent disparities in health care are major contributors to the issue. This Q&A with IFDHE's senior program manager, Crysta Meekins, MPH, and Lynn Todman, vice president of health equity and community partnerships at Corewell Health, explores how Corewell is using AHA's Health Equity Roadmap to advance Black maternal health to ensure equitable outcomes. https://lnkd.in/dxxHK9uD #BMHW24 #NMHM2024

Healthcare Executive/International healthcare strategist // Maternal+infant health advocate // Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Consultant // Speaker // Author “The Colors of My Heart:Embracing My Blackness “
As a Black OB-GYN and DEI expert, I see firsthand the devastating impact of healthcare disparities every single day. The COVID-19 pandemic exposed these existing problems in a major way, but these issues haven't gone away. Black communities lack access to fresh food and quality healthcare. Latinos often face language barriers and cultural insensitivity. The trans community struggles to find culturally competent doctors. We need a fundamental change in how we approach healthcare. ALL communities deserve access to quality care, delivered with dignity and respect. This broken system perpetuates distrust and denies basic human dignity. We need a fundamental change in how we approach healthcare. ALL communities deserve access to quality care, delivered with dignity and respect. Let's work together to break down these barriers and build a more equitable healthcare system for everyone. #BlackHealthMatters #HealthcareForAll #DEI #EndHealthCareDisparities
