"In the UK and EU, it takes around 3 years to train to become qualified to work on, service and repair aircraft*. It’s a specialist engineering licence that is needed and it comes from the Civil Aviation Authority (or EASA member state). Every aeroplane we’ve ever travelled on will have been declared airworthy and signed off by a Certified engineer. The places where people can train to get this specialist licence are few and far between… and getting steadily fewer each year as airfields & opportunities are closed. The graphic below shows the most recent stats on the numbers of CAA UK registered engineers… there were 11,639 of them in total in 2021. But look how many of that total were about to reach retirement age, or were over retirement age… take them out of the total and the true figure is around 9500 instead! That is not very many people with the necessary skills and qualifications to keep us all safe in the skies above, and below. There are specialist engineering apprentices studying at #EGBN Nottingham City Airport, steadily working towards this vital qualification." Sarah Deacon *NB: Minimum 3 years - starting with General Aviation machines (e.g. SEP/MEP) - it takes several more years to then train for further qualifications ("B" licence) and specific Airliner Maintenance Type Ratings! #SaveNottinghamAirfield #GeneralAviaition #futureflight #eVTOL #eCTOL #UAM #RAM

📢 Attention, fellow aviation enthusiasts! ✈️ As someone currently immersed in technical training for aviation, I can’t stress enough how vital it is to treat this phase with the utmost seriousness. Training isn’t just a prerequisite—it’s the foundation of our future roles as aircraft technicians. Here are a few key reminders that I’ve found incredibly important: 🕒 Show up on time: Punctuality isn’t just about being present; it’s a reflection of our commitment and reliability. Every minute in training is an opportunity to absorb knowledge and sharpen our skills. 💤 Stay awake and engaged: It’s tempting to zone out or catch a quick nap during those long sessions, but every piece of information shared is crucial. Active participation not only enhances our learning but also shows respect for our instructors and peers. 💪 Give it your all: Whether it’s a practical exercise or a theoretical discussion, putting in your best effort ensures that you’re truly understanding and retaining the material. This isn’t just about passing exams—it’s about becoming the best technician you can be. Remember, the habits we build now will carry over into our careers. Let’s treat our training with the same dedication and professionalism that we would on the job. Our future in aviation depends on it! #AviationTraining #AircraftMaintenance #Professionalism #CommitmentToExcellence
