"With patient navigation, [it's] that extra layer of checking in with somebody, making sure that all of their socioeconomic needs are met, and their mental health needs are addressed within a family planning visit, and any other need that may arise that may contribute to their physical health that the provider is not able to address at that visit. " In our latest video, learn how the Konza Prairie Community Health Center, a #TitleX funded service site, partners with a local agency to provide patient navigation services that address maternal health needs and help to deliver #WholePersonCare in rural Kansas: https://lnkd.in/gfHa4wEU

My perspective, these young people (k-12) can benefit immensely from taking daily class about how to deal with emotions, how to talk to each other, how to treat each other preferably starting in preschool. To avoid suicide among this age. The education system is fails to teach children about the most important things “themselves, “their emotions” how to treat each other, how to talk to each other, and how to care for their immediate environment. And as for health care for these children whom we are taking the responsibility to train so they can live in a conscious civilized world, their health should not be dependent on an institution, instead, they should have a daily class about the natural food their bodies needs, how to prepare it and preserve it. Moreover, their health should not depend on artificial medicine, rather they should be learning how to prepare natural medicine. I think it is time to start teaching real knowledge. The rest it’s pretty much unnecessary. They need to learn about themselves first, before learning about anything else, after all, am sure we all agree that we want a generation of healthy kids that can take care of themselves, and can communicate with empathy, and understand their emotions before training them for industrial labor? I think we need to start thinking outside the box.
To address the youth mental health crisis and meet children where they spend the majority of their waking hours — in schools — UnitedHealthcare is collaborating with Hazel Health to provide 1 million students access to virtual healthcare services in up to fourteen states by 2025. “It’s time that we break the silos that traditionally separate educators, health care providers, health plans and policymakers to pioneer solutions that ease burdens for families and demonstrate real results for our children." - Josh Golomb, CEO of Hazel Health Read more on this innovative partnership from Krista Nelson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare Community & State here: https://lnkd.in/ecWKNUj6

Too little, too late, at high cost, for little change in outcomes - the US health care workforce way Basic health access in the US is 400 billion short of sufficient for the 40% of the population in 2621 counties with half enough primary care, mental health, women's health, basic surgical and geriatrics services and workforce. The build up to 400 billion would take a decade and then another 20 class years for sufficient workforce. The annual increase to keep pace would need to go up by 10% a year unless the administrative, regulatory, and micromanagement burdens were cut in half. Contrast with what is needed and what gets big press - small amounts that are even smaller when covering many areas and multiple years. In September, HRSA awarded $240 million to expand hashtag #mental health & substance use disorder services, $100 million to strengthen the health workforce and nearly $75 million to support health care in hashtag #rural areas, and also presented @NASHPhealth’s Conference. http://ms.spr.ly/6048m7BH8

A gripping webinar organized by the Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA) revealed a nuanced template for addressing substance use from a public health perspective. The webinar underscored an innovative approach to developing public health policies related to substance use. A few things to note: (1) Upholding an individual's autonomy is vital while dealing with health determinants. (2) There is a need for partnerships with individuals who have had first-hand experiences; these partnerships should ensure that the affected people play an integral role in policy and decision-making processes. (3) A bold commitment to eradicate stigmatization and discrimination is what drives this noble course— this will see a more inclusive and just health sector. From my perspective as a critical health sociologist, I find interest in how it integrates trauma(healing)-informed, gender-transformative, anti-racist, culturally safe practices— which should form the basis when coming up with any policies towards substance use. Holistic approaches should include harm reduction and human rights at the forefront to recognize the full spectrum of substance use & addiction. The stress on practical and evidenced decision-making, which facilitates bridging the gap of research to application in reality, is highly compatible with my work philosophy. This approach makes public/community health programs more effective, sustainable, and capable of responding to diverse communities' needs. I look forward to the sector's efforts to advance equity in health and transformative policies towards public/community/population health—an essential realm of public healthcare that impacts many lives. #PublicHealth #HealthEquity #SubstanceUse #CPHA #SocialJustice #HealthPolicy #Addiction #MentalHealth #MentalHealthPolicy #PopulationHealth #CommunityCentric #DrugPolicy Link to video: https://lnkd.in/exs8UejY

Healthcare providers hoping to improve #mentalhealth #outcomes across diverse patient populations need to consider more than just improving access with additional appointment slots; rather, it requires customization of how patients are screened, the recruitment of providers that reflect the race and ethnicity of the populations served, and training mental health providers in #culturalhumility. I wrote about recent research on this topic in Ascendient Healthcare Advisors's free, monthly e-brief: https://lnkd.in/erXCRVd5

If you haven't read my report about the experiences of how community health workers and their clients (in infant and maternal health) navigate the healthcare system, please take a look!
Solutions to address the challenges in the Community Health Worker profession include increasing recognition of clients' physical and mental health changes among medical providers, the need for more resources to address the social determinants of health, and advocating for more funding. Despite attempts to improve disparities in access to treatment, research shows that racial and ethnic minority populations continue to face significant challenges in accessing any form of mental health or substance use treatment, let alone culturally sensitive treatment. MHA believes that the best response is for all providers including MHA and its affiliates to embrace and integrate a multifaceted, holistic, approach to diversity that focuses on acceptance, inclusion, and understanding of the needs of all communities. We strive for a better tomorrow by adopting the truth that all people deserve equal opportunities in health care including mental health care.
