This month, like the rest of us, I’ve been bombarded with nonstop breaking news. The constant barrage of alarming and disheartening stories is enough to make my nervous system feel stuck in fight-or-flight mode. But in the midst of everything happening in our country, one thing has become even clearer to me: I must use my voice to help amplify the stories that matter. Stories of hope, resilience, social justice, stewardship, community, creativity, innovation, love, joy. Since college, my personal mantra has been: “No one is silent, but many are left unheard. Work to change this.” That belief led me to journalism, and now, it’s the foundation of my next chapter. Which brings me to some good (personal) news. This week, I officially formed Good News Grace LLC, my communication consulting business. While I offer a range of communication services, my passion is in media relations and crisis communication, and I want to use my expertise to shine a light on the people fighting for good. A perfect example? I’ve had the privilege of working with the Hawaii-based nonprofit Kuana’ike, whose mission is to spread the spirit of Aloha and healing to the world. On Tuesday, Casey Lund with Hawaii News Now featured Kuana’ike and its upcoming Spirit Fest, a three-day gathering in March focused on inspiration, connection, and deepening spiritual wisdom. Getting divorced and laid off in the same month felt like being hit by a wave I wasn’t sure I could recover from. But people from all chapters and stages of my life have come around me and poured into me spiritually, emotionally, professionally and practically, lifting me up in ways I can’t fully express. I’ve found my confidence again. I’m alchemizing my pain into purpose, and I’m stepping into this next season with a clear heart and steady footing, no matter what storms may come.
