🌱 Improving livelihoods of 5,000+ farmers. 🌱 Avoiding 25,000+ tons of CO2 emissions. 🌱 Revenues & gross margins growing ~3x & ~4x pa. EBITDA positive already in 2 countries. 🌱 Expanding to 3rd country, Indonesia. Impressive! Agros, our first Wavemaker Impact portfolio company, helps farmers double profits, improve soil health and yields plus reduce emissions, replacing noisy, dirty diesel pumps with clean solar. Clear product market fit. Besides sustainable farming solutions, Agros do something else really well… They know their customer. They know who they are, what distinct problems they face (by region) and how to best tailor their products and services to meet their needs. Why do I say that? > They discovered different regions face distinct challenges due to varying climate conditions and soil types. > They test soil to give farmers tailored recommendations for inputs, increasing crop yields up to 25% > They match repayment schedules with harvest cycles to help farmers cashflow > They developed a farmer champion program that incentivises early adopters Agros aims to help 100,000 farmers and mitigate over 1 mega tons of GHG emissions within five years - helped by recent Indonesia expansion. Keep up the great work Max Nelen, Arga Wicaksono, Vincent Angga Gunawan, Raisa Hosin, Thet Naing, Soeng Vay, Louise Berthault and the whole Agros team… onwards and upwards! If you're an experienced founder, or business builder, who wants to build a sustainability unicorn but doesn’t know where to start… we’d love to help realise your mission to make a planet and people positive impact! #climateaction, #climatetech, #agritech, #sustainablefarming, #climatesmart, #irrigation, #solar, #soilhealth, #startup, #innovation #SoutheastAsia

So much is happening in the realm of activism and climate awareness, and yet this is the outcome. It's Rawalpindi, specifically the back of Ladies Park Gulzar e Fatima, Satellite Town. Every morning, I wake up to smoke. In the neighboring house lives an uncle, a heart patient. He pants and trembles as he tries to put out the fire in the back alley, but it's impossible. The cleaning staff from Buraq company in Rawalpindi have plastic bags, carts, and helping staff too, but who bothers to check on them? Their SOPs? Citizens can die or develop terminal cancers in the long run exposed to these toxins, but who cares? Garbage is swept with a broom on the side and set on fire. The citizens in the neighborhood keep coughing, choking. No one asks. The municipal corporation, administrative officers, environmental department, and the PHA main office are located next to the Al-Barak headquarters at Liaquat Bagh. The park with this charred background is owned by the PHA. Look at the condition of its wall. But what do the officers care? It is the property of the people's taxes. Let it go to waste. #BlackSoldierFly for #OrganicWasteManagement Mombasa City, like many other cities and towns in Kenya and around the world graples with Solid Waste Management.🛃🚮 The city generates more than 1000tonnes of waste a day, only 30% is collected for safe disposal and less than 10% recycled. Around 60% of solid waste being organic waste that must never end in #Sanitary #Landfills(Not to talk about the public health standards of our sanitary landfills), organic waste that majorly encompasses food waste generates #Methane that is 28times more potent than Carbon Monoxide(CO). However organic waste can be turned into valuables like fertiliser and animal feeds like the case example below👇👇 through #Black #Soldier #Fly #Farming. More investment and resourcing for such enterprenuers within the Solid Waste Management value chain needs to be done by our national/local governtments and municipalities to realize reasonable Sanitation standards for all as a nation. #BlackSoldierFlyFarming #OrganicWasteManagement #FoodWasteManagement #WasteSegregation #WastetoWealth Alisa Keesey Dr. George Wainaina @Eric Guntai County Government of Mombasa

Honored to speak at the first 2-part Signpost to Bali webinar series, which serves as a precursor to the 10th World Water Forum, 2024, along with excellent speakers and experts on water and sanitation who have been part of amazing innovations in WASH across the region. It was a privilege to share Nepal’s Sanitation journey, and challenges faced at the community level due to inadequate sanitation facilities, and the impact of the same. Delay in finalizing WASH Regulation seems to be the biggest challenge for the sanitation sector now. This affects each element of the sanitation service chain, creating a ripple effect in the construction of toilets, the plight of informal sanitation workers, treatment, and safe disposal of fecal sludge as they are all interlinked. What do you think is the biggest challenge that the sanitation sector is facing in Nepal?

Realizing the full potential of sustainable agrifood systems will require coordinated action across multiple fronts: *1. Policy and Governance* Governments must develop comprehensive policies and regulations to incentivize sustainable practices, protect natural resources, and ensure equitable access to nutritious foods. International cooperation is essential to harmonize standards, share knowledge and technology, and mobilize investment. *2. Research and Innovation* Continued advancements in agroecology, precision farming, food processing, and distribution logistics are vital. Integrating indigenous and traditional knowledge with cutting-edge science can unlock new sustainable solutions. *3. Stakeholder Collaboration* Farmers, businesses, policymakers, researchers, and consumers must work together to co-create sustainable food systems. Empowering smallholder farmers, especially women, is key to driving equitable change. The path towards more sustainable agrifood systems is complex, but the rewards in terms of food security, environmental protection, and socioeconomic well-being are immense. By working together across sectors, we can cultivate a future where nutritious food is available, accessible, and produced in harmony with our planet. The time to act is now. *The author* Alhaji Alusine Kebe, is a graduate of Agriculture from PMAS-Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi. He is an alumnus of the Global Change Impact Study (GCISC) and the National Agricultural Research Center Islamabad (NARC), among others. Kebe has created an organization called Climate Change Mitigation and Agricultural Innovation for Development(CLIMAID), which serves as a bridge for food security, climate action, environmental stewardship, and social development. He is actively advocating on this issue through all his channels of development. Kebe is passionate about promoting sustainable agro-food systems transformation and is committed to seeing a future where agro-food systems can feed both the present and future generations without compromising environmental stewardship. https://lnkd.in/dHebaSXV https://lnkd.in/gwarDvCi #SustainableAgriculture #FoodSecurity #NutritionalSecurity #ClimateChange #EnvironmentalSustainability #RegenerativeAgriculture #SmallholdersAndFarmers #FoodSystems #CircularEconomy #AgricultureInnovation #PolicyAndRegulation #SustainableDevelopment #FoodJustice #AgricultureResearch #FoodTransformation #FarmToFork #AgroEcology #PrecisionAgriculture #FoodTraceability #GlobalFoodSystem

🚨 **New Publication Alert!** 🚨 I'm excited to share our latest paper titled "Differentiated and Conflicting Incentives Across the Sanitation Value Chain: The Case of Sanergy in Nairobi." Our study takes a deep dive into Sanergy, a market-based Container-based sanitation provider, to explore why scaling up these services has been so challenging. We argue that misaligned incentives among stakeholders are a major roadblock, making the dream of establishing a self-sustaining faecal waste circular economy out of reach. This research underscores the crucial role of the state in actively participating in sanitation provision, ensuring it is treated as a public good, rather than solely relying on market-based solutions. 🗞️ For those interested in the intersections of public services and market-based solutions, this paper offers valuable insights into the complexities of scaling sanitation services in rapidly growing cities. https://lnkd.in/e-5FTHMB #Sanitation #PublicHealth #Nairobi #PublicGoods IWA Publishing Anna Mdee Dani Barrington Dorice Agol Barbara Evans

With the Jal Jeevan Mission: #HarGharJal, India sparked a rural water revolution, and AquaKraft Ventures fiercely supports this calling. ‘Har Ghar Jal’ is not just a policy slogan; it is a national priority. 🇮🇳 Launched in 2019, with an outlay of 3.60 lakh crore, the Jal Jeevan Mission made an audacious promise: to bring safe, adequate tap water to every rural household by 2024. 💧Over 72% rural households have received tap water access, benefitting 568 million individuals. 💧5 states achieved 100% coverage, including Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh closely followed by northeastern states. 💧Gram Sabhas have taken charge of their water resources strengthening community accountability. While challenges remain, the will to overcome them is persistent. The key lies in collaborating with water management experts, and community leaders to bring the most feasible technology to rural water management. We have manifested this learning through the International Water Sustainability Coalition. United by partners like Quazar Investment and Leo Burnett India, we are setting the stage for global collaborations and partnerships. With the shared hope of a water-abundant future, let us also share lessons, resources, and best practices.
