Last year, we partnered with Forward Thinking Birmingham and Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust on a project that will have a lasting impact on mental health services in Birmingham. When the Blakesley Centre was identified as no longer meeting the needs of young people with mental health challenges, a decision was made to relocate care to the Washwood Heath Health and Wellbeing Centre. Community Health Partnerships and our Birmingham and Solihull LIFT (BaS LIFT) partnership were commissioned to reconfigure the first floor to create a modern, supportive environment for mental health care. This project demonstrates the power of partnership and design in creating a healthcare space that truly supports the community. Supporting Vulnerable Residents While Protecting Your Wellbeing Working with vulnerable residents who face multiple complex needs can be emotionally and physically draining. Balancing a heavy caseload often means dealing with crises daily, which can take a toll on your own wellbeing. I’ve learned that to provide effective support, you also need to care for yourself. Here’s what’s helped me stay resilient: Boundaries: Recognising what I can control and focusing on doing my best within those limits. Teamwork: Leaning on colleagues and sharing knowledge makes the load lighter. Reflection: Celebrating small wins and reminding myself of the positive changes I’ve helped create. The work is challenging, but knowing that I’m helping residents rebuild their lives keeps me motivated. How do you take care of yourself while supporting others? I’d love to hear your strategies. #SelfCare #ComplexCaseload #HousingSector
