🏡✨ Discover the charm of St. Paul, Minnesota, through its historic homes! These architectural gems are more than just beautiful houses—they're a crucial part of the city's heritage and real estate market. From Victorian to Georgian Revival styles, neighborhoods like Summit Avenue and Irvine Park showcase these well-preserved treasures. 📈 Historic homes in St. Paul often command higher prices than modern ones due to their unique appeal and limited availability. Buyers appreciate the craftsmanship and historical context, making these properties highly sought after. 🛠️ Preservation is key to maintaining these historic homes. Community efforts, governmental support, and private investments all play a role. Organizations like the St. Paul Heritage Preservation Commission and Historic Saint Paul provide resources and incentives for homeowners to restore and maintain these properties. The Justus Ramsey House, built around 1852, is a shining example of successful preservation despite facing demolition threats. 🌆 Preservation regulations ensure new constructions and alterations harmonize with the historic fabric of neighborhoods, maintaining their charm and appeal. 💰 Preserving historic homes boosts property values and attracts tourism, benefiting local businesses. Culturally, these homes connect residents and visitors to St. Paul's rich history, fostering community identity and pride. They also serve as educational sites for schools and local organizations. Do you know what a "third place" is? And no, we're not talking about sports or competitions. As a continuation of our post about malls becoming living spaces, we wanted to talk more about "third places" and what they are. If your “first place” is your home and your “second place” is your work, “third places" reference those spaces meant to foster a sense of belonging and community. Coined by Ray Oldenburg in the eighties, the sociologist feared that modern society was failing to cultivate third places noting a growing emphasis on work and private life. Examples of third places include churches, cafes, bars, clubs, community centers, public libraries, gyms, bookstores, makerspaces, stoops, parks, theaters, and opera houses, among others. Who knows what third places could be transformed into living spaces next! #themoreyouknow #thirdplace #thirdplaces #apartmentliving #modernlivingspaces
