We’ve all have it.
I’ve have it.
My friends have it.
Strangers have it.
Even Barbra Streisand has it.
What is it!? Let me backup.
I just finished listening to “My Name is Barbra,” the Barbra Streisand memoir. All 48+ hours of it on audio book. I LOVED it. I loved learning more about this legendary performer and artist. But what struck me, more than any other memoir I’ve read, is how human she is. She has done Broadway, sang in arenas, starred in movies and is besties with Presidents. She has directed, written and produced so many works of art.
But here is the thing… she also has self-doubt. That little voice in your head that says, “No one is going to show up for this. No one is going to care. Who do you thing you are?"Now Barbra, I understand if it was me saying those things to myself, but YOU?? Funny enough, I know people that will read this and say, “Now Jen, I understand if it was me saying those things about my self, but YOU?”
Guess what? Yes, me. Yes, Barbra. Yes, you.
Self-doubt can be paralyzing. It can creep in at the most inconvenient times. It can detour the best laid plans. But only if we decide that what the self-doubt voices are saying is true. And spoiler alert, it usually isn’t true. It is that parental image saying, don’t touch that or you’ll get burned. It is a protector of scary things. But sometimes, especially creatives, we need to release that voice and step bravely on stage.
All of this is easier said than done. But sometimes, if we thank the voice and move forward (among other tools), great things are around the corner. Are you ready to step up on stage? I want to help. I have 2 spots open for one on one coaching. DM me when you’re ready. I’ll be in the audience cheering you on.
