Glenwood isn't just about patient care; it's the backbone of West Monroe's economy. Imagine the impact on our community when 1200 jobs shrink to 750. It's not just about doctors and nurses; it's about the maintenance staff, janitors, and clerks who keep things running. A closure would force many to leave, worsening our local job shortage and scattering our skilled medical professionals. How do you think we can support these workers and prevent such a crisis? Mayor Staci Albritton Mitchell of West Monroe, LA, testified before the Senate HELP Committee to discuss the impact of management decisions on patient care during the bankruptcy of Steward Health Care. #PatientCare #EconomicImpact #JobShortage #HealthcareJobs #CommunitySupport #WestMonroe #MedicalProfessionals #EmploymentCrisis #HealthcareIndustry

I Googled "emergency room." The headlines under the news tab was tragic but unsurprising to this veteran ER nurse. From violence to shuttered hospitals to overcrowding, the headlines paint a grim picture. I was just talking to someone about how I've watched the landscape change in my tenure in the ED. I started working as a secretary (back when that was still the term for them!) when I was 19 years old. Now, almost 20 years later, I see the vast differences. We used to wonder why someone didn't just make an appointment with their primary care provider. Now, we understand that it's probably a two-month wait. We used to cherry-pick lab tests and imaging. Now, we have protocols and checklists to follow. We used to ride down the IV poles down the hallway or sled down the ambulance ramp on a backboard... oh, wait, we never did that 🤭 The landscape has changed and continues to transform. Adaptability, teamwork, and a dash of fearlessness describes most ER nurses I've known, and it will be interesting to see how the ER continues to shift with AI introducing new workflows into an inundated system. #expertwitness #law #legal #legalexpert #legalnurse #personalinjuryattorney #personalinjury #attorney #emergencymedicine #emergencydepartment #emergencycare #nurse #ernurse #criminallaw #defenseattorney

Just read this article that really made me stop and think. Did you know that in South Dakota, three big health systems have put together over $160,000 for an ad campaign about the nursing shortage? And here's the kicker - in these ads, Governor Kristi Noem is playing a nurse! Now, don’t get me wrong, I get the idea behind it. They want to highlight the serious need for nurses in the state. But here's my question: why are we paying someone to act like a nurse when that money could actually be going to real nurses who are out there on the front lines? I mean, think about it. Nurses are the backbone of our healthcare system. They're working long hours, often in super stressful situations, and let's be honest, they're not always getting the recognition or the pay they deserve. So, when I see a chunk of money going towards someone pretending to be a nurse for an ad, it just doesn't sit right with me. It's like we're missing the whole point. We don't need people playing dress-up as nurses; we need real nurses. And more importantly, we need to value those nurses. That money could be used for so many better things – better wages, better working conditions, scholarships for nursing students... the list goes on. Let's not just talk about how much we need nurses. Let's show them we value them with actions, not just advertisements. https://lnkd.in/e2VBE5gD

Author, Speaker, Leader, CEO of Global Health Square, Ghana West Africa, Advanced Respiratory Therapist @ Duke. BSRT, RRT, RRT-ACCS, RCP , MHA Candidate @ uncw ‘24
Leading by example is my kind of leadership. I consider myself a servant leader.
THIS IS WHAT LEADERSHIP LOOKS LIKE! I stop by Capri Gardens Rehabilitation and Nursing Care in Lewis Center, Ohio today on my way to another meeting. I had time and wanted to see how Derek Lytle, LNHA, one of our newer young Administrator was doing. When I got there the receptionist said that Derek was out on the floor but wasn't sure where. I told her, "No problem, I'll walk around and visit, and I'll find him." After visiting with a few residents and employees and making my way through part of the building, I saw Derek coming out of a resident's rooms with a broom and dustpan in his hand. He told me that they were down a Housekeeper today and instead of putting extra work on the team he decided to help out and clean one of the Units himself. I could feel my chest filling with pride and knowing that this young man was going to be an amazing Administrator. He leads by example and steps up to help his team. Culture of Care in Action! “The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” —William Arthur Ward #leadership #example #inspiringleadership #caprigardens #foundationshealthsolution #cultureofcare #makingadifference #ltc #seniorliving #seniorcare

--Hi everyone, I’m looking for a role as a Licensed Nursing Home/Assisted living Administrator/CAH Hospital CEO. Tyran.adams.mha@gmail.com 712-330-1000
New Administrators: When you are negotiating an administrator/CEO/Executive Director position you need to begin asking for a signed no “at will” contract. Hospitals historically have granted these contracts for example 24 months increments. Many companies fill executive positions can bypass “at will” because this is a crucial position to the organization. If you are terminated within that time you still get the remainder or a large percentage of your salary and benefits up to the 24 month term. If you don’t do it this way it creates a hostile environment on your life and your families because Unemployment only cover up to $2000. It’s just not worth it if you do not negotiate this type of contract for Nursing Home administrator position. We all know the 24/7 expectations. Critical Access hospitals all the way up to large hospitals have this agreement system. My opinion is if they do not provide this you need to wait until you find someone that will provide it. It’s not worth risking financial integrity. Especially if you have to apply in states that only require a high school degree or an associates degree in order to sit for the nursing home administrator board exam and also within their state you have too many expenses if you have a bachelors or a masters plus the older you get the more expenses you acquire.
