🚀 You must have heard about Quantum Computers and all the buzzwords around them, but do you know why or how the idea of Quantum Computers came into being? While Richard Feynman was among the first to propose an answer to such a problem, it was Oxford physicist David Deutsch, often referred to as the Father of Quantum Computing, who proposed the first universal quantum Turing machine in 1985. This groundbreaking idea laid the foundation for the development of many quantum algorithms, which continued to build interest in the field. A significant trigger that sparked widespread interest was Peter Shor's 1994 paper on Shor's Algorithm. This algorithm posed a theoretical threat to the security of classical computers, highlighting the potential and necessity for advancements in quantum computing. So excited to start seeing multiple companies pushing for useful applications of quantum computers. Google just put out a $5 million prize for any useful applications with quantum computing: https://lnkd.in/gDDhWaKz The problem this paper solves through simulation on a quantum computer is "simulation of nonequilibrium dynamics of a magnetic spin system quenched through a quantum phase transition". The most important aspect to me is this is a quantum computer simulating a quantum system. This is exactly the type of problems Richard Feynmann was describing quantum computers could outperform classical computers back in the late 1980's. Excited to dive into this paper.
