Exciting update! The 130MW Glenrowan Solar Farm in northern Victoria is now energised, ready to power 45,000 homes with renewable electricity! Pacific Partnerships, part of CIMIC Group, achieved this milestone on Tuesday, with exports to the national grid starting in December and full production by March 2024. Located in Victoria’s North East Renewable Energy Zone, the project, backed by a 10-year power purchase agreement with the Victorian Government, is a major step towards sustainable energy. Simon Nicholls, managing director of Pacific Partnerships, commends the team's efforts for on-time energisation just one year after construction began. The project is expected to create 125 full-time jobs, with a focus on local hiring. Lilydale Service center is owned and operated by Martin Phillips, with 20 years of experience as a former owner of the award-winning Waverley Service Centre. Martin was looking for a smarter and more sustainable option to reduce his current power bill. After discussing his options with the Cyanergy team, Martin made an investment of 33k in a 38kW solar system. This system has an estimated annual production of 53.973MWh, with a payback period of 32 months. Before investing in solar, the service group’s power cost was 14K per annum. After the installation of the solar system, the power cost has been reduced to 4K per annum. The Lilydale Service Group’s solar installation is an example of how investing in renewable energy can be beneficial to businesses. Not only does the installation provide a cost-effective way to reduce energy costs, but it also helps to reduce the group’s carbon footprint. Here are a few things the Minns Labor Government has done to speed up the renewable energy transition in NSW! 💡We’re fixing the planning system by creating new planning guidelines for renewable energy projects. 💡We’ve created the Energy Security Corporation to invest $1 billion in critical projects like pumped hydro and community batteries. 💡We’ve approved seven solar farms, eleven big batteries and three wind farms. 💡We’ve run enough tenders supporting renewable energy projects to get us almost halfway to our 2030 target. 💡We’ve provided $8 million in grants to accelerate the delivery of big batteries to store renewable energy and maintain reliability. 💡We’ve partnered with the Commonwealth Government to support enough additional renewable energy in NSW to power over 1 million homes.

Continuing our theme on fossil fuel states, CanaryMedia reporting that coal-producing Wyoming could soon have one of the largest solar+storage facilities in the US. "The 771-megawatt project, slated to start construction in 2025, is part of a trend of big solar-plus-storage plants in unexpected places. The state’s Industrial Siting Council approved a permit for developer Enbridge in early May to build and operate the Cowboy Solar project, which will be built on private land in Laramie County, in the state’s southeast corner, beginning in March 2025. The project will employ an average monthly workforce of 285 temporary employees, with a peak of approximately 375 employees. Once completed in 2027, the $1.2 billion, 771-megawatt installation will not only be the biggest solar farm in the Cowboy State but also one of the largest solar projects in the U.S. The project will also include 269 megawatts of battery storage to soak up surplus daytime sunshine and make it available for use later in the day." Project Highlight - In 2017, Vanguard Energy Partners transformed four closed landfills in Massachusetts into thriving solar farms totaling 14 MW of energy production! These innovative farms were established on "brownfield" land, areas too contaminated for residential or commercial development. One of the advantages of solar is the ability to build on these sites, turning potentially hazardous land into a source of renewable energy, and ultimately providing a major benefit for the local environment! Vanguard Energy Partners has taken the lead in reclaiming several landfills and brownfields to date. While significantly more work must go into these projects to ensure they are installed safely, the benefit of repurposing this once unusable land and providing the local area with clean energy is certainly worth the challenge. Exciting news, the second round awardees of R-STEP have been announced: Support for states, local governments, developers and utilities in preparing for a #CleanEnergyFuture is a top priority for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) through programs like the Renewable Energy Siting through Technical Engagement and Planning (R-STEP) initiative.
